‘Don’t Look Up’: Jennifer Lawrence Repeatedly Suffered an Embarrassing Costume Malfunction in Front of Leonardo DiCaprio
Don’t Look Up has one of the biggest casts of any movie this year, including Jennifer Lawrence and Leonardo DiCaprio. Netflix is marketing the comedy-drama to moviegoers and to voting association members for awards consideration. And Lawrence has shared a sneak behind-the-scenes look at some of the set’s most iconic moments. She recently mentioned one particular costume malfunction that happened right in front of co-star DiCaprio.
What is ‘Don’t Look Up’ about?
Don’t Look Up is written and directed by The Big Short filmmaker Adam McKay. The social satire follows low-level astronomer Dr. Randall Mindy (DiCaprio) and his student, Kate Dibiasky (Lawrence). They try to warn the president (Meryl Streep) of an oncoming comet headed toward Earth, but she refuses to hear them out. They feel compelled to set out on a giant media tour to warn the world about their oncoming doom.
The Don’t Look Up cast is jam-packed with Lawrence, DiCaprio, Streep, Rob Morgan, Jonah Hill, Tyler Perry, Timothée Chalamet, Ron Perlman, Ariana Grande, Scott Mescudi, and Cate Blanchett. Real-world events with the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and Donald Trump inspired McKay to make Don’t Look Up even “crazier.”
Jennifer Lawrence experienced an embarrassing ‘Don’t Look Up’ costume malfunction
Lawrence broke down the Don’t Look Up trailer on the Vanity Fair official YouTube channel. She explored some trivia and also other essential information about her role in the movie. Lawrence plays an astronomy student working with her professor, so she dug into her fair share of research for the part.
“In part of my research for the film, I spoke to a female astronomer,” Lawrence said. “We kind of decided that Kate is the type to, you know, be fierce and ‘notice me, hear me roar, ra-ta-ta’ kind of lady.”
Lawrence went on to talk about one particular costume malfunction that wouldn’t stop happening on set. She explained the situation with a look of dismay on her face.
“The nose rings, one just kind of hangs in, one is a magnet,” Lawrence said. “Many, many times I accidentally inhaled said magnet and had to spit it out in front of Leonardo DiCaprio [sighs].”
Jennifer Lawrence is back acting after a hiatus
Lawrence is an Oscar-winning actor who took a step back from Hollywood. She was one of the most desired actors in the industry. However, she felt the need to step away from the spotlight for a moment. Lawrence wanted to make some changes to better determine what type of projects she wanted to make and why.
Nevertheless, Don’t Look Up marks a huge return. Lawrence has big films in her future, and audiences are thrilled to see her back on the silver screen. Stay tuned to see whether Lawrence gets another Oscar nomination for her Don’t Look Up performance, even though it’s already a crowded category this year.
Netflix’s Don’t Look Up hits theaters Dec. 10, and it will be on Netflix on Dec. 24.
