‘Don’t Look Up’ Star Jennifer Lawrence Said Jonah Hill Spent an Entire Day On-Set Insulting Her – ‘It Was Amazing’
Don’t Look Up is a star-studded comedy-drama that boasts laughs, social commentary, and a possible awards season contender. The humor has plenty of improv comedy that the cast is quite proud of. Star Jennifer Lawrence recently recalled her experience on the Don’t Look Up set. Co-star Jonah Hill spent an entire day improv insulting Lawrence, but she had a great time doing it.
The ‘Don’t Look Up’ real story turned into humor
The Big Short‘s Adam McKay wrote and directed the upcoming Don’t Look Up. The story follows low-level astronomer Dr. Randall Mindy (Leonardo DiCaprio) and his student, Kate Dibiasky (Lawrence). They discover a comet that’s headed straight for Earth. However, nobody will take them seriously. The pair head on a media tour to try and warn the world about the oncoming doom.
Don’t Look Up boasts a big cast with DiCaprio, Lawrence, Rob Morgan, Hill, Mark Rylance, Tyler Perry, Timothée Chalamet, Ron Perlman, Ariana Grande, Scott Mescudi, Cate Blanchett, and Meryl Streep. Naturally, the movie isn’t a real story, but real-world situations and events inspired the story.

Lawrence broke down the Don’t Look Up trailer on the Vanity Fair YouTube channel. The trailer occasionally freezes and asks a question about the image on the screen. It froze on Hill’s character mid-conversation, as Lawrence explained his character and a fun sneak peek behind the scenes.
“Jonah’s character is the President’s son,” Lawrence said. “But also the Chief of Staff, which some might think is nepotism. He is the worst. It was really, really hard filming with Jonah, and just not ruining take after take, laughing.”
The trailer is clear that Hill’s character is not someone to root for, as he’s actively working against the protagonists. He tries to work against science and expert recommendations to try and sweep anything potentially problematic against his political party’s image under the rug.
Lawrence continued: “We one time dedicated an entire day to him just improv-ing insults at me. It was amazing. (Laughs). He and Meryl are the only ones who really should do that kind of improv. I mean, he’s just a comedic master. We all did some stuff. Just not as well as Jonah.”
‘Don’t Look Up’ Netflix release date
Don’t Look Up is a Netflix movie that is hitting theaters as a possible awards contender. McKay’s film will enjoy a limited Dec. 10 theatrical release. Otherwise, Lawrence’s Don’t Look Up will be available streaming on Netflix starting Dec. 24. The comedy-drama is targeting a holiday release just before the new year.
The climate change crisis satire also includes musicians in the cast with Kid Cudi and Grande. They collaborated on the song “Just Look Up” for the movie’s soundtrack. Some audiences question if the humor could hurt the movie’s Oscar chances, although it’s still getting serious awards buzz. Netflix continues to push Don’t Look Up for awards consideration.
