TLC star Deon Derrico is clearing the air about some family drama.

The Doubling Down With the Derricos dad took to Instagram on Monday to talk about comments on social media from his niece and nephews and to criticize them for turning to a public forum to resolve family issues.

Deon Derrico says disgruntled family members ‘want money’

In a lengthy video posted on his Instagram on August 26, Deon and his mother, Marian “GG” Derrico, opened up about a family conflict that has spilled over into the public eye, prompting many questions from confused followers and fans.

“We’re here to talk about the drama. This is some real drama,” Deon said before he went on to explain the situation.

Deon shared that his late brother Chris had several other children in addition to his son Amani. Amani, who died in July 2024, was occasionally featured on Doubling Down With the Derricos. Deon and his family have also been active in raising money to pay for his medical and funeral expenses. Chris’s other children were not part of the show and Deon said he had little contact with them due to a major falling out years ago. He also accused their mother of being a “habitual liar” who fed her kids “poison” about their father’s family.

After Doubling Down With the Derricos premiered in 2020, Deon’s niece and nephews resurfaced. Recently, someone identifying herself as Deon’s niece has left comments on a Facebook page associated with the show accusing the Derricos of being “liars” and “fakes.”

Deon says he felt he had to speak up after his estranged family took their complaints to a public forum.

“Because they took this sh*t to social media and we are public figures and they want money, they want fame, they want a platform, now I have to stoop down to that level and address it,” he said.

‘Doubling Down With the Derricos’ star says relatives feel ‘entitled’ to be part of the show

While Deon was close to his brother’s “alleged” children when they were young, they have not had a meaningful relationship for many years, he said.

“I’m a family person. I believe in bringing family together. You see that echoed in our television show,” he said.

But in Deon’s opinion, his relatives are only interested in a relationship now that he and his large family have a TV show.

“For them to feel entitled to be on a television show when they haven’t been a part of my life, it baffles me. It is literally perplexing that anyone could think such a thing,” he said.

Both Deon and GG hinted that Chris’s other children were jealous of the connection Amani developed with the Derricos before he died.

“When Amani stepped up, all hell broke loose,” GG said.

Now, after some heated confrontations (including a blow-up at Chris’s funeral in 2020) and angry messages, GG says she’s done.

“At this point, I don’t want sh*t to do with them,” she said.
