Drake Name-Drops Kylie Jenner in the Song ‘Demons’ off of His New Mixtape
The surprises just kept on coming following the arrival of Drake’s brand-new mixtape, Dark Lane Demo Tapes.
Not only did he shock fans by dropping the project just a few hours after announcing its existence, but the tracklist included several superstar guest features, which many can’t stop gushing about on social media.
But the biggest surprise of all came during the song “Demons,” which included a cheeky reference to Kylie Jenner, whom the rapper sparked romance rumors with just a few months ago.
Drake sneakily mentioned Jenner’s massive fortune in the song
Kim Kardashian West is no longer the only KarJenner sister Drake’s referenced in one of his songs.
After dropping his surprise mixtape on May 1, fans were quick to pick up on the 33-year-old rapper subtly name-dropping the youngest Jenner sibling in his track, “Demons,” which he collaborated on with Fivio Foreign and Sosa Greek.
In the first verse, Drake raps, “My TD Bank is on what? (What?) / My TD Bank is on Kylie (Ayy, ayy),” hinting that his bank account is on the same level as the Keeping Up With the Kardashians star, who was recently named the “youngest self-made billionaire” for the second year in a row.
While the reference might not seem like a big deal to some, it is for those of us who followed Drake and Jenner’s short-lived fling intently a few months back.
In October 2019, rumors of Jenner and Drake sparking a connection began to surface, just a few days after she called it quits from her boyfriend of two years, Travis Scott.
The pair were first spotted getting cozy at the rapper’s 33rd birthday party at Goya Studios in Hollywood. Sources at Us Weekly reported that Jenner “spent the most time near Drake and his friends” that night.
They then added, “Kylie was rapping to songs and dancing with her friends while she was next to Drake, but they weren’t dancing together. They seemed to have a connection though.”
Jenner and Drake have been friends for years
After that, Drake and Jenner began hanging out “romantically,” causing mixed reports on whether they were just friends or moving toward becoming something more.
While a few sources insisted that the two were just pals who had built up a close bond after being friends for years, others reported that the A-listers “had a thing“ for each other but weren’t looking to turn their relationship into “anything serious.”
“Drake has always had a thing for Kylie and it’s mutual,” the source said. “They hang out here and there and have been more recently than in the past because Kylie is technically single right now and the two of them live so close to each other.”
A few weeks later, it was reported that Drake no longer wanted anything romantic with the makeup mogul as the two decided they were better off as friends.
“Drake has definitely moved past any type of romantic feelings toward Kylie and it’s purely platonic between them at this point,” a source told HollywoodLife in December 2019.
Ultimately, the celebrities didn’t want things to get complicated between them and mutually agreed that they would stay friends so that wouldn’t happen.
“Drake would never want to upset Kylie or any of the family that he has known forever so that is why he wants to cool down any and all of the romance rumors,” a separate source told the outlet. “Drake is not going to make anything uncomfortable with Kylie, he’d never want to deal with the repercussions if they would become an item and then break up. He’d rather quit pursuing anything while they are still great friends.”
As of today, both Jenner and Drake are still single, and to the public’s knowledge, they continue to remain good friends.
