Drake just gave his fans music for the summer and beyond with his new album, Honestly, Nevermind. Released on June 17, the 14-track LP displays his unique style and versatility, embracing a sound much different than on 2021’s trap-heavy Certified Lover Boy. He shared the first video off of the album for the song “Falling Back,” which, it turns out, was reportedly worked on by one of Drake’s Degrassi co-stars.

Drake’s ‘Falling Back’ music video is out now

The video for “Falling Back” came out on the same day that the album dropped. It is wedding-themed and features Drake marrying the girls of his dreams, with a special appearance by Tristan Thompson as his best man. It was directed by Director X and appears to have some photography done by Kit Weyman.

As IMDb notes, Weyman is a writer, actor, and director. Notably, he once had a role on Degrassi: The Next Generation playing Sully. His Fandom page points out that he was known for being on the school’s soccer team and for briefly dating Manny Santos (Cassie Steele). Weyman appeared on the show in its earlier years before disappearing down the Degrassi Black Hole around the third season.

He was connected to the video for “Falling Back” after Drake tagged him on Instagram in a series of pictures from the video. Weyman also shared the same post on his page along with related emojis including a camera and film. Showbiz Cheat Sheet reached out to representatives for Drake for comment but did not hear back by publication.

Drake on ‘Degrassi: The Next Generation’

Drake, of course, appeared on Degrassi: The Next Generation as Jimmy Brooks. Tall and athletic, Jimmy was the school’s star basketball player and one of its most popular students. He hoped to play basketball professionally after graduation. But those dreams were shattered after he was paralyzed by a school shooting.

He started to think about pursuing a career in law, but ultimately decided to put those funds toward stem cell surgery. After graduating in 2007, he left for Amsterdam to get the procedure done, joined by his girlfriend Trina.

Drake had one of the longest runs on the show, appearing across eight seasons before departing in 2008.

Why Drake left ‘Degrassi: The Next Generation’

Those familiar with the show know that it had a revolving door of characters, meaning that no one ever stayed on for too long. But Drake has claimed that he was unceremoniously fired, citing his musical aspirations at the time.

“Back then, I’d spend a full day on set and then go to the studio to make music until 4 or 5 a.m.,” he explained to W Magazine in 2015. “I’d sleep in my dressing room and then be in front of the cameras again by 9 a.m. Eventually, they realized I was juggling two professions and told me I had to choose. I chose this life.”

However, Degrassi co-creator and executive producer Linda Schuyler has claimed otherwise. Schuyler told BuzzFeed they had actually “helped him” with his music and had only gotten rid of his character because it “had run its course.”

“We were nothing but supportive,” she added.

Either way, judging from Drake’s continued work with some of the crew, it looks like he overall had a great experience.
