Drew Barrymore Never Called Christian Bale Back After Their First Date

Drew Barrymore has been romantically linked to numerous celebrities since her rise to fame. But did you know that she once had a thing with actor Christian Bale?

It turns out that the Charlie’s Angels star dated the Batman Begins actor when they were both teenagers, but as the story goes, the pair went out once — and only once — as Barrymore full-on ghosted Bale after their brief outing.

Try as we might, we just can’t imagine Barrymore and Bale ever being a thing. However, more than 20 years ago, the two had a little something going on between them — if you can call it that.

The pair went out on a movie date when they were teenagers, but it didn’t go too well, according to the Batman star.

In 2012, Bale told GQ Australia that after briefly dating Barrymore, she put an end to their teenage courtship and never called him back.

“We went to see some bloody awful horror film, and that was the end of it,” Bale said. “She never called again.”

While we can’t even fathom why Barrymore would ghost on the Dark Knight himself, it turns out that she has an explanation for all this.

During an appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen in 2015, Barrymore confessed that she doesn’t exactly remember why she never called Bale back after their first date.

“I don’t know,” she said, after host Andy Cohen asked why she would treat Bale so cold. “He was so nice.”

But she did give a few reasons as to why she left the actor high and dry, noting that she wasn’t boy crazy at that age and had other things going on in her life during that time.

She added, “I had a lot of fish to fry, like I had big problems in my world for many years, like in good ways — things you gotta overcome . . . boys were like very secondary.”

Following her one and only outing with Bale, Barrymore went on to briefly date several famous actors, including Corey Feldman, David Arquette, and Edward Norton.

She even struck up romances with Luke Wilson, comedian Tom Green (whom she was married to for nine months 2001), and Justin Long.

In early 2011, the Never Been Kissed star began dating art consultant Will Kopelman, the son of former Chanel CEO Arie Kopelman. After nearly a year of dating, the couple announced their engagement in January 2012 and tied the knot on June 2, 2012.

Though Barrymore and Kopelman divorced in 2016, they remain dedicated co-parents to their have two daughters: Olive, 8, and Frankie, 6.

As for Bale, he has been married to his wife, Sandra “Sibi” Blazic, since 2000, and the couple have two children together: daughter Emmaline, 15, and son, Joseph, 6.
