Dua Lipa Interviews Senior Citizens About Herself and Takes Their Criticism Well
Dua Lipa guest hosted Jimmy Kimmel Live from her home on Aug. 10. The singer had fun with her persona, claiming she studied at Hogwarts (House Griffindor) and making up explanations for her tattoos. She had some more fun interviewing senior citizens about pop music over video chat.
Wearing a conservative pink dress, the singer asked her subjects some questions about Dua Lipa. Here are some of their unfiltered opinions and you can see the full video below.
Dua Lipa had trouble getting people to say her name
After some introductory pleasantries and general questions about pop music, the singer asked her guests if they knew who Dua Lipa was. Some of the mispronunciations included “Dua Mita” and The Doobie Brothers.
“Is that a person?” one person asked.
Another had heard of the singer before.
“I’ve actually heard that name somewhere,” the guest said. “I assume it’s a lady.”
Dua Lipa got good reviews for ‘Break My Heart’
The singer played “Break My Heart” off her new album Future Nostalgia. She made at least one fan out of one guest.
“Love it, love it, love it,” the guest said. “What’s the name of it? That’s a good one. I’m writing it down.”
However, others would not go so far as to say the “Break My Heart” was better than Frank Sinatra.
“She’s not holding a candle to him,” One guest said.
Another guest suggested the singer could do well on Tik Tok.
“She might, you’re very right,” the singer confirmed. “She might do well on Tik Tok.”
Her fashion was too much for some senior citizens
Dua Lipa raised the stakes by showing a picture of herself in a short yellow checkered top. She must have expected the reaction she got.
“That’s terrible,” One guest said. “If I had a daughter I wouldn’t want her to go out in that.”
Another said, “It looks like she’s trying too hard.”
However, one gentleman seemed pleased, screaming, “Oh yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah.”
Her dress for the Grammy Awards went over better.
“I guess by today’s standards that would be fine,” a guest said.
In character, the singer responded, “I think she will take fine.”
Dua Lipa revealed herself
By this point, it became a little absurd to continue the ruse. One guest identified the singer even before she revealed herself.
“I’m just looking at you wondering are you Dua Lipa?” the guest said. “You look like her. Are you sure you’re not she?”
One of the more critical guests responded to the fact that she’d critized the singer to her face.
“Oh swell,” the Guest said. I really got myself in it this time, didn’t I?”
One guest committed to buying the album. Let’s hope he can find the physical media he seeks.
“I’m gonna run out right now and buy a CD,” the guest said.
