Dua Lipa’s Next Album Is ‘Starting to Take Shape’
In the late 2010s and early 2020s, Dua Lipa has become one of the biggest stars in pop music. After the success of her 2020 album Future Nostalgia, the “Levitating” singer is hard at work on her next album — and could be coming sooner than fans think.
Dua Lipa’s career so far
Dua Lipa rose to fame in 2017 with her self-titled debut album. The LP’s release was fronted by hit singles including “Hotter Than Hell” and “New Rules.”
In 2020, she made her mark on pop music forever with her smash sophomore album Future Nostalgia. The album contained heavy influences from the disco and funk records that were all the rage in the 1970s and ’80s, hence the album’s title. The album was released in April 2020 amidst strict coronavirus (COVID-19)-related lockdowns around the world, and for nearly two years, had only been able to perform songs from the project on a handful of occasions.
Dua Lipa’s third album is on the way
Having spent most of 2020 and 2021 inside, Lipa was able to focus clearly on her next project. She spoke about her upcoming third album on her podcast At Your Service with music icon Elton John.
“I’m very excited,” she said, adding that the album is “50 percent done.”
“[It’s] starting to feel good,” she said. “It’s starting to take shape. I’m very excited about some of the new songs, so it’s always exciting to look forward towards something.”
Lipa first spoke about the album in a January 2022 interview with The Wall Street Journal. She admitted at the time that the LP was “still in baby form” and that she was “in no rush” to give fans a taste of what’s to come, but said that she’d already had “a lot of it recorded.” She even revealed that the project already had a title.
“It has a vision. It has a name, I think — for now,” she said. “It’s just been fun experimenting. I’m always going to make pop music, but it has its own unique sound, which is exciting and something that feels like a movement from Future Nostalgia.”
Dua Lipa’s ‘Future Nostalgia’ tour
With most of her next album done, Lipa has still been hard at work throughout 2022. She embarked on her highly-anticipated Future Nostalgia tour in support of her acclaimed album, finally on the road after nearly two years of lockdowns.
In an interview on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Lipa admitted that having had almost two years of success with the album, she has a better idea of how to please the crowd on tour. “I’ve done a lot of audience research, and so I feel like I know what songs people like, and the Future Nostalgia tour really is the Future Nostalgia tour because it’s predominantly songs from that album, whereas I think before it would have been bits here and there.”
