Duggar Family Critics Are Shocked Jessa Duggar Allowed Her Son, Spurgeon, to Say This
It’s no secret Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar are strict parents. They raised 19 children on the small screen, and fans got to witness every household rule the Duggar kids had to follow. Now, many of Jim Bob and Michelle’s kids are all grown up with spouses and kids of their own. And many Duggar viewers are pointing out the differences in parenting.
Jessa Duggar recently posted a video for her son’s birthday. In the video, her oldest son, Spurgeon Seewald, calls her by her first name — and some critics are shocked she allowed it.
Jessa Duggar posted a video celebrating Spurgeon’s birthday
Those who’ve kept up with the Duggars have watched Jessa since the humble beginnings of 19 Kids and Counting and Counting On. While Jessa still films with TLC, she also has her own YouTube channel where she posts videos of herself, her husband, and their three kids.
Jessa posted a video celebrating Spurgeon’s birthday. The video begins with Spurgeon opening a few of his birthday gifts, which included new shoes, a coat that matches his dad’s, and a hat. And he also got a few tools, like a hammer and pliers, as he likes to “help” around the house.
“Do you feel older?” Jessa asked Spurgeon as she faced the camera toward the both of them at the end of the video. To that, Spurgeon shook his head to indicate “no.”
“Yeah, ’cause I’m not bigger,” Spurgeon reasoned.
Duggar family critics are surprised Jessa allowed her son to call her by her first name
Fans are loving the inside looks Jessa gives into her life. And it’s clear her kids are acting as they normally do when she’s filming. Toward the end of Jessa’s birthday video with Spurgeon, she continues conversing with her young son. And he abruptly calls her “Jessa” instead of “mom.”
“It takes awhile for us to grow up, and growth happens so slowly that we don’t see it,” Jessa explained to Spurgeon. “But, Spurgeon’s about 44 and a half inches — we measured him today.”
“Hey, Jessa,” Spurgeon added. “You measured me with my tape measure.”
It seems some family critics are surprised Jessa didn’t correct her son when he called her by her first name.
“Anyone else catch Spurgeon calling his mom, ‘Hey, Jessa?'” a Reddit user wrote. “My jaw dropped! I can’t ever imagine the original Duggar children calling JB and Michelle by their first names. I’d reckon Jessa is a lot more hands-off and laid back than her parents were with her.”
Some think Jessa’s used to hearing her name from all of her younger siblings
While some other Reddit users expressed their surprise by Spurgeon calling his mother “Jessa,” others think Jessa’s totally used to hearing it, as she helped many of her younger siblings grow up. Jessa was one of the oldest of 19, and she was known for helping the little ones get their schoolwork and chores finished each day.
“She’s probably used to it from raising so many of her siblings,” another Reddit user wrote.
“After being a sister mom for years, she didn’t even notice when her own kids use her first name,” another commented.
“She raised a bunch of kids already whom called her Jessa, so it’s not foreign to her at all probably,” yet another wrote.
Spurgeon is certainly a funny kid, so we’re sure we’ll see plenty more quirky moments from the 5-year-old in the future.
