Duggar Family Weddings: Who Will Be the Next Duggar to Get Married After Jana Duggar?
The Duggar family of TLC’s 19 Kids and Counting and Counting On just celebrated another wedding.
On August 15, Jana Duggar, 34, tied the knot with Stephen Wissmann in a ceremony in Prairie View, Arkansas. She is the 12th of Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar’s 19 children to get married. Who will be the next to say “I do”?
Which Duggar kids are not married?
Jana stood out among her siblings for waiting until she was in her mid-30s to walk down the aisle. Most of her siblings got married in their late teens or early 20s. Some followers of the family even dubbed her the “Cinderella Duggar” and theorized that she was stuck at home doing chores for her family and raising her younger siblings.
Jana was the oldest of the unmarried Duggar kids. She has four younger female siblings who are not married Johannah, 19; Jennifer, 17; Jordyn, 15; and Josie, 14. She also has three unmarried younger brothers: Jason, 24; James 23; and Jackson, 20.
Jason Duggar may be the next to say ‘I do’
Currently, no Duggars have announced an engagement or a formal courtship (the family’s more conservative take on dating). But that doesn’t mean there isn’t something brewing.
Earlier this summer, Jana’s brother Jason seemed to soft-launch his relationship with a mystery woman on Instagram. A few weeks later, he confirmed he was seeing someone. “Celebrating the 4th with my girl,” he captioned the Instagram post, which did not reveal his girlfriend’s name.
So far, there’s no indication that Jason is engaged. But it’s possible that the couple is following Jana’s lead and keeping quiet about their relationship status. Though there were rumors Jana was engaged prior to her wedding, she did not confirm her relationship until the day of the ceremony.
There have been few Duggar weddings in recent years
With 19 kids, weddings are a regular occurrence in the Duggar family. But before Jana’s wedding, the family went more than two years without celebrating a marriage. The last sibling to get married before Jana was her brother Jeremiah, who married Hannah Wissmann in March 2022. (Hannah is the sister of Jana’s new husband.)
The controversy swirling around the Duggars in the past few years may be one reason why there has been a gap in weddings. In April 2021, eldest son Josh Duggar was arrested and charged with receiving and possessing material depicting child sexual abuse. The family’s TLC reality show, Counting On, was canceled soon after. Josh was convicted in late 2021, and in May 2022, he was sentenced to 12 years in prison.
Jana’s younger sister Jill Duggar Dillard has also been speaking out about her older brother’s abuse and her falling out with her father over a dispute related to compensation for her work on the family’s TV show. In 2023, she published a memoir, Counting The Cost, detailing the dark side of reality TV and her complicated relationship with her family.
In an interview with People, Jana hinted that the situation with her family was one reason she moved cautiously in her relationship with her new husband.
“I had been a slower mover on it, but just over time, his character, his coming back, still loving me no matter what,” she said. “I know we have a big crazy family and still kind of putting up with a lot of things. I’m like, my goodness, there are not too many people that do that. He must really, genuinely care about me.”
“It takes me a bit to open up, but I think just his continuing to be there, no matter what, through ups and downs,” she added. “He’s been a good friend over the years and has not pressured me in a lot of ways.”
