‘DWTS’: Cheryl Burke Responds to Tyra Banks Calling Herself Out for Mistakes
Season 29 has been awkward to watch for Dancing with the Stars fans. That’s partially because of the changes made for the cast to safely socially distance. But the other part is because Tyra Banks had a rough start on the show. Cheryl Burke is now responding to Banks calling herself out for the mistakes.
Tyra Banks has made a few mistakes on ‘Dancing with the Stars’
It hasn’t been a smooth season for Banks being a host of the competition show. There was an episode where she stumbled over her words. She addressed this in a video on TikTok.
“Tonight I hosted the second episode of Dancing with the Stars… and yeah, it wasn’t perfect,” Banks said. “Yeah, I had a lot of fun but I messed up, I said the wrong words, but I kept, kept going.”
She also pointed out that she wasn’t alone. Skai Jackson almost fell during her performance with Alan Bersten. “So the message is: I messed up this week, Skai messed up this week, but we’re gonna keep on going and going,” Banks said. “Forgive yourself when you mess up and keep going.”
That wasn’t her last mistake of the season. The host incorrectly said Cheer star Monica Aldama and her partner Val Chmerkovskiy were safe in the Oct. 5 episode. However, they were in the bottom two and Banks had to call them back to face Anne Heche and Keo Motsepe.
She claimed there was “an error in the control room.” Banks added, “This is the craziness of live TV.”
Andrew Llinares, who is an executive producer on the show, later defended Banks. “I think Tyra dealt with it amazingly. I just want to be really clear, this was not Tyra’s fault. It was a behind-the-scenes issue,” he told Entertainment Tonight.
Cheryl Burke said Banks calling herself out is refreshing
The professional dancer responded to Banks making a few mistakes this season. Burke thinks how the former model is doing well with handling things.
“It’s really refreshing, I think, to see her just basically call herself out from certain things. When that happened with the missed results — whatever happened — she handled it pretty well,” she told Us Weekly. “She’s like ‘Guys this is live television, it is what it is,’ and she’s very real. She’s not just like reading a teleprompter.”
The dancer also noted Banks is trying hard to bring the cast together. “As much as she can without us being so close, at a distance, she’s really trying to interact as much as possible,” she said. “I think she’s great. She really is. And I look forward to seeing what she’s wearing every week!”
It looks like Banks still has support from people involved with the show. Hopefully, the rest of the season will go off without a hitch.
