British singer Ed Sheeran has been making hit songs for a decade, and throughout that time in the public eye, he’s undergone immense personal growth as well. While he debuted as a young single singer, he’s now a married man with a beautiful baby daughter of his own. And as the child of a world-famous singer, she’ll get to experience some of Sheeran’s own life herself.

Ed Sheeran became a father in 2020

Ed Sheeran was first introduced to the world in 2011 with his debut album +, which contained his breakout single “The A Team.” He continued to release albums throughout the 2010s, and his most recent project, =, was released in 2021.

Sheeran’s life in the lead-up to =‘s release — as well as the year since then — have been filled with big personal developments. In 2019, he married his wife Cherry Seaborn, and in 2020, they welcomed their first child together, a daughter named Nyla Antarctica.

In a 2022 interview on the Australian talk show The Project, he admitted that fatherhood has changed many of the things in his life, including parts of his daily routine. “It’s made me want to get up early in the morning to have more time in the day,” he said. “I get up at 5:30 a.m. with my daughter and we have breakfast.”

“My life has just shifted,” he added. “It’s a lot more wholesome and I get more out of the day.” He also spoke about them listening to vinyl records together and even becoming gym buddies of sorts. “I mean, she’s not doing weights or anything,” he quipped.

Ed Sheeran is bringing his baby on tour

In 2022 and 2023, Sheeran is going back on the road. Officially called the +–=÷x Tour (pronounced “Mathematics”), the tour will take him through Europe, Australia, and New Zealand over the next year.

Sheeran has prioritized his baby daughter in his personal life, and that love now carries over into his professional life. In an interview on the Carrie Tommy podcast, Sheeran revealed just how much he was working his role as a father into the +–=÷x Tour.

“I’m fortunate enough to be in a stage where it’s weekends. We play Friday, Saturday, Sunday at stadiums in towns where we will just live in a hotel for the week,” he said. “So it’s actually very child-friendly. She’s super portable, she’s not anywhere near the age where she needs to go to school, and she’s going to be good.”

The tour is designed with baby Lyra in mind

Because the tour will take place in large stadiums, the large venues mean that Sheeran will have greater access to resources necessary to ensure Lyra is taken care of.

“There’s a couple of things that are beneficial about the [Mathematics] tour that I’m on. I used to play toilet venues — tiny, tiny venues that had no dressing room. You’d go in a van and you play these things and you’d play like eight gigs in a row and stay in all shared Travelodge hotel rooms.”
