Elizabeth Chambers Shares the Secret to Her Marriage WIth Armie Hammer
After almost 10 years of marriage and two children, Elizabeth Chambers and Armie Hammer are clearly still smitten with each other. Hammer, who is best known for his role in the movie Call Me By Your Name, has a busy acting career to keep up with, while Chambers is keeping up with her business Bird Bakery, as well as making appearances as a guest judge on shows like Cupcake Wars.
But despite their packed schedules and bustling home life, this glamorous pair manages to keep their relationship strong. What’s the special sauce that keeps them close? Chambers recently shared some of their relationship tips for the rest of us.
Armie Hammer and Elizabeth Chambers had a complicated beginning
The start of their love story has a twist. They met one day when Hammer had planned a fun day with some friends in Los Angeles, and one of them brought Chambers along. Hammer described his reaction when he saw her as love at first sight, saying: “I felt like I’d been knocked over.”
Unfortunately for him, Chambers already had a boyfriend. The two became friends, but after a couple of years, Hammer couldn’t take it anymore.
Hammer recalls: “Our friendship continued to grow and grow until one day when I was like, ‘I can’t be friends with you anymore. You’ve got to break up with your boyfriend, and we’ve got to start dating.'”
Surprisingly, that worked. They started going out, but they hadn’t been dating for very long before Hammer had another idea.

“When we finally got together, Armie really wanted to get married,” Chambers said. “He sat me down and said, ‘Look, we don’t have to do this. We could just go our own ways, and then one day you’ll be 40 and divorced and we’ll run into each other. We’ll laugh and go out to dinner and have this same connection, and we’ll wonder why we wasted all of that time. Or we could just do it now and enjoy the ride.”
Again, the unusual approach worked.
Hammer and Chambers got married in 2010, and they went on to have two children. Their daughter Harper is now five, and son Ford is three.

It seems like this powerhouse couple has built their marriage on some pretty solid rules. One of them is that they are careful to be sure that they work as a team.
“Sure,” Chambers has said, “we’re both motivated and we always want to work and we always focus on work but the most important thing is each other and our family.”
Unlike the rigid gender roles of a few generations ago, they’re happy to divide up childcare and housekeeping duties however they need to so everyone gets what they need.
They also keep in mind that it’s important to prioritize their relationship, especially since their careers often keep them apart. For example, Hammer had to get on a plane for London on Valentine’s Day, but they understand that they need to stay connected when they’re apart.
“Water your grass where you want it to grow,” Chambers said. “I feel like that’s such a cheesy, weird thing to say. But you have to put work into a friendship, a working relationship. Wherever you put the work, that’s where it’s going to blossom.”
When you see how Hammer and Chambers still look at each other, it’s clear that their relationship continues to blossom. There are plenty of famous couples that could learn something from this happy marriage. But no matter who else notices, they’ll continue to only have eyes for each other.
