Elizabeth Olsen Admits the ‘Marvel Movie Magic’ Is Gone For Her
Elizabeth Olsen has become a fan favorite among Marvel Cinematic Universe fans for her portrayal of Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch in the past few years. But the actor admitted that it’s difficult for her to sit down and watch the MCU projects she is in.
Marvel actor Elizabeth Olsen has played Wanda Maximoff since 2014
Elizabeth Olsen as the Scarlet Witch has become an integral part of the Marvel world in the past couple of years. But she got her start in a Captain America: The Winter Soldier post-credits scene. The tease served as a setup for Avengers: Age of Ultron, Olsen’s first official starring role in an MCU movie.
Following the second Avengers film, Wanda became a permanent member of the Avengers. But her uncontrollable power got her into a lot of trouble in Captain America: Civil War and an accident set the Sokovia Accords into motion. Wanda joined Team Captain America in the movie, which ended with her on the run from the government. And when fans saw her next in Avengers: Infinity War, Wanda and Vision had begun a full-blown romance.
Unfortunately, their time was cut short when Thanos sought the Mind Stone. Wanda destroyed the Infinity Stone, killing Vision in the process. But Thanos used the Time Stone to bring Vision back to life, take the Mind Stone, and kill him again. After Thanos’ snap, Wanda was one of the billions to get dusted.
Wanda returned at the end of Avengers: Endgame along with the other half of the world’s population. And she then starred in WandaVision, where she finally became the Scarlet Witch. Her grief, anger, and the Darkhold’s influence contributed to her becoming a villain in Doctor Strange 2. But she realized the error of her ways at the end of the Marvel film, and Elizabeth Olsen’s character seemingly sacrificed her life to destroy all copies of the Darkhold.
Elizabeth Olsen cannot watch Marvel films
Although fans cannot get enough of the Scarlet Witch, Elizabeth Olsen told Independent that it’s difficult to watch her own Marvel movies.
“Honestly, the Marvel movie magic is lost on me now, which is too bad,” the actor explained. “I have to get my kicks elsewhere.”
While appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Olsen even admitted that she didn’t watch Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness at the premiere.
“It was amazing to have a premiere in front of fans,” she said. “I don’t watch them, I haven’t seen it. I do watch myself, but I just decided I can’t watch these Marvel movies at a premiere anymore. Every time, I just watch it, and I look around me, and I’m like, ‘Well, it’s our first flop.’ Like, every time.”
Olsen added, “I saw Avengers: Endgame, and I looked around me, and I said, ‘It’s our first flop.’ And so, I just decided I don’t want to put myself through that experience again. So, I’ll see [Doctor Strange 2] at some point.”
Will the Scarlet Witch return to the MCU?
Although her character seemingly died at the end of Marvel’s Doctor Strange 2, Elizabeth Olsen believes she will return to the MCU.
“It’s weird that I’m expecting to return, but no one’s told me I’m doing anything!” the actor told Variety. “But in my mind, I’m just making the assumption that they’ll have me again. I don’t know to what capacity, but I hope I’m back. I hope there’s also more fun to be had in something different. Where do we go? I feel like we’ve done so much with her. It’s been really a wild couple years with her.”
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is now playing in theaters.
