Elizabeth Olsen Fans Had ‘No Idea’ the Olsen Twins Were Her Sisters
These days when you hear the name Olsen in entertainment media, you’re almost always hearing about Elizabeth Olsen. The 31-year-old has made a name for herself as a successful actress starring in blockbusters and indies alike. Most recently, Olsen has become a household name because of her role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But, it wasn’t that long ago that Olsen’s older sisters, Mary-Kate Olsen and Ashley Olsen, were dominating the entertainment industry.
It’s fair to say that Mary-Kate and Ashely became household names before they even started talking. Cast as Michelle Tanner on the hit sitcom Full House at just six months old, the twin sisters built a billion-dollar empire for themselves in the years that followed. But, as they reached adulthood, they opted to step back from the spotlight and focus on careers in fashion. Since then, a new Olsen has stepped in and lent her talents to the acting world.

As Elizabeth is two years younger than her twin sisters, she was always afraid that people would cite nepotism as the reason for her success. “I always had this need to prove myself to myself and to like everyone around me that I work really hard. I think it’s just the fear was that you don’t earn or deserve the things you work for because of who you’re naturally associated with,” the Sorry for Your Loss actress shared in an interview with Off Camera.
Elizabeth even considered ditching the Olsen name and going by Elizabeth Chase (her first and middle name) in her acting career in order to create distance from her family’s success. But, ultimately, she decided that she was proud to be associated with her sisters and she got over the fact that some people might always cite nepotism as the primary reason for her success.

But, while Elizabeth may have been hell-bent on proving that her twin sisters weren’t the reason for her success, many of her fans failed to notice that there was even a relation. In fact, a lot of people confess that they didn’t make the connection for years until they Googled her and saw her listed as a sibling to Mary-Kate and Ashley.
“She is a great actress, regardless of who her family is. TBH I didn’t even put two and two together until I finally Googled her. Whenever I think of her, I think of Wind River and not about her sisters. Not that there is anything wrong about her sisters! I am just stating she has made a name for herself,” one of Elizabeth’s fans wrote on YouTube.
Fans praise the actress for her talents
“Elizabeth is a good actor. I love her. I had no idea (until recently) that she was related to the Olsen twins, I thought she was just their namesake. Even the similarity in her face to the Olsen twins didn’t trigger me to think that she might be related to them,” yet another fan sounded off in the YouTube comments, also citing Elizabeth’s resemblance to Mary-Kate and Ashley.
Others are so impressed with Elizabeth’s acting chops that they forget about who her sisters are. “I know this sounds dumb but I keep forgetting she’s an Olsen. To me, she’s just a good actress,” yet another person chimed in. It’s clear that Elizabeth has made a name for herself as an actress. No matter the successes of her elder sisters, it’s evident that she’s carved out a place for herself in the industry.
