Elizabeth Warren Just Shared This 1 Shocking Thing About Her Beauty Routine

2020 U.S. Democratic presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren recently sat down with Cosmopolitan editors to discuss everything from healthcare to sexual harassment. But it was her answer to a question about skincare and beauty that led her to start trending on Twitter.

Elizabeth Warren is known for many things, but in a Jan. 9 interview with Cosmopolitan’s editor-in-chief Jessica Pels and other key editors, the 70-year-old 2020 presidential candidate set Twitter on fire about…her skincare routine.

After diving deeply into the questions Cosmo readers care about most, from healthcare policy to sexual harassment, Warren revealed a surprising detail about her daily beauty routine that immediately began trending on social media.

The 2020 presidential candidate answered questions about healthcare policy, the campaigning system…and Pond’s moisturizer

Cosmopolitan sits down with many U.S. presidential candidates every election season for a deep-dive discussion in advance of the primaries. Warren discussed key issues like sexual harassment (and Harvey Weinstein), healthcare policy, student loan debt, a wealth tax, funding public education, and improving the campaigning system with the Cosmo editors.

But in a rapid-fire last round, the questions got a little more lighthearted. Warren answered questions about Baby Yoda or old Yoda (Baby Yoda, duh), New Year’s resolutions (walking more), and Little Women (she’s a Jo).

It was the last question that really got tongues wagging on Twitter, though. Pels, the editor-in-chief of Cosmopolitan Magazine, asked: “You knew this was coming. What is your skincare routine?”

Pond’s Moisturizer,” Warren replied. She added, “Every morning, every night. And I never wash my face.”

Pels said simply, “Wow…You’re one of those.”

Warren replied simply, “Yeah, I am.”

“That’s a very French thing,” ventured Pels.

Warren said an older family member inspired her skincare routine

Warren added a personal touch to her skincare confession, sharing that it was an older cousin she admired who inspired her to make the switch to Pond’s-only.

“So I have—had, she’s passed now—but a much older cousin named Tootsie,” Warren told Cosmo.

“Years ago, I was, I guess probably somewhere in my 20s, and we’re at a big family reunion. And Tootsie was beautiful. I looked over at her, and I said, ‘Toots, how do you have such gorgeous skin?’

The answer, apparently, changed Warren’s life (or at least her skin) forever. “She said, ‘Pond’s Moisturizer every morning, every night, and never wash your face,’” Warren told Cosmo. “So from Tootsie to me to you.”

Twitter was immediately shocked by Warren’s skincare confession

The Pond’s discussion immediately began trending on Twitter, with everyone from dermatologists to skincare gurus chiming in. Some were confused about how Warren’s skin ever got clean at all, while others wondered if they should be simplifying their own skincare routines. Many others said the trend of cleansing only with Pond’s was highly popular in the 1950s and ‘60s.

“Pond’s Cold Cream! Her skin looks that good from POND’S?!?!?” one surprised Twitter user wrote

“So does Elizabeth Warren just never take off her makeup? Or is she using Pond’s moisturizer as her makeup remover too? I have so many questions,” another mused.

As the Twitter debate fired up, there was also some confusion about the difference between Pond’s cold cream and Pond’s moisturizer. Which one did she mean? After all, one is technically a cleanser, while the latter isn’t.
Whatever the case, Pond’s likely got some free advertising out of the whole debacle. “Who bought their first ever tub of Pond’s this week?” one Twitter user asked.
