Ellie Kemper Worried About Kissing ‘Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’ Co-Star Daniel Radcliffe: ‘I Felt So Bad For Him’
Ellie Kemper couldn’t fully enjoy kissing her Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt co-star Daniel Radcliffe — mostly because she felt bad for him when they were filming. In her eyes, she shared in an interview, it “felt so wrong” to kiss the Harry Potter star for multiple reasons.
What is the new ‘Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’ about?
The cast of the Netflix series reunites for a new special, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: Kimmy vs. The Reverend, and it’s got a fun twist. Viewers get to determine the course of the story in a “choose your own adventure” style of storytelling.
As Kimmy sets off on her latest journey, fans of the show can participate in the interactive special, with the main character, played by Ellie Kemper, preparing for her wedding to Prince Frederick (Daniel Radcliffe). She discovers that Reverend Richard Wayne Gary Wayne (Jon Hamm), who held her captive, has another bunker of women. With viewers offered choices, they’ll play a role in her journey, as she has a wedding ahead of her but there are also girls in need of rescue.
Kemper was worried about kissing Radcliffe
Since he plays her fiancé, Radcliffe and Kemper’s romance is seen on screen and, of course, that means there’s kissing involved. Unfortunately, Kemper found that worrisome for a couple of reasons.
During an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Kemper was asked about whether they kissed. “Oh my gosh, I kissed him multiple times, Ellen,” she shared. “And I felt so bad for him.”
Her reasons were legitimate, however.“Because A, I’m three times as old he is,” she explained. “But B, I was pregnant at the time of us shooting. And I just — felt so bad he had to kiss this old pregnant lady over and over again.”
Things got awkward, it seems, but she called her co-star “a trooper.” She shared, “And there was a moment when he, like, grazed my belly and I was like first, it felt wrong, but I also… he’s a trooper.”
Radcliffe is ever the professional and a great co-star, Kemper shared. “He’s very lovely. I’m sure you’ve met him. He’s a class act,” she added.
Radcliffe read hilarious tweets about himself
Radcliffe is a good sport — perhaps never more evident than when he read “thirst tweets” about himself for Buzzfeed. Of course, there was so much fan love for the Harry Potter star, but also some quirky stuff too… but he carried on and had some fun with it.
“Just found out last night what thirst tweets actually means, I thought it was just tweets that were thirsty for attention not that that attention was specifically sexual,” he said, adding, “So this’ll be fun!”
One fan tweeted, “I believe in magic and that magic is Daniel Radcliffe’s abs,” to which he responded, “That’s very kind. If you can hear someone else laughing at this, that is my girlfriend.”
He found one tweet particularly filthy and innocent at the same time. “I wish Daniel Radcliffe would send me nudes so I could screen-print them on a Snuggie,” a fan’s tweet read.
“That has both a filthiness to it and an innocence,” the actor said, adding, “My girlfriend just said she would take that Snuggie, so she agrees with you, person on the internet.”
The ones that called him daddy didn’t quite sit well with him. “Daniel Radcliffe? More like daddy Radcliffe amirite ladies,” one tweet read. “The daddy thing weirds me out. But thanks, still. Sincerely, thank you,” he said. “I don’t like this daddy kink, guys,” he later admitted.
