Emily Ratajkowski’s career took off when she starred in Robin Thicke’s controversial music video “Blurred Lines” in 2013. Since then, the model and actress has launched her own business, a clothing brand called Inamorata, and become a political activist, using her social media profile to highlight the causes she cares about. But she can’t shake her sex symbol image.

While she’s encouraged people to see beyond her looks she’s admitted to being guilty of taking someone at face value. She admitted to making  “assumptions” about one of the richest actresses of all time, Demi Moore, because of her body. Ahead, find out what Ratajkowski had to say about Moore’s memoir and her own public image.

From her home in New York City, New York, 28-year-old Ratajkowski spoke with British GQ. On the cover of their June 2020 issue published on May 7, 2020, Ratajkowski appeared in a series of photographs taken by her husband, film producer Sebastian Bear-McClard. In the cover story that accompanied the photos, Ratajkowski touched on fame being a “bizarre thing,” — she has 26.2 million Instagram followers and counting — her marriage, and, of course, Moore’s memoir.

Emily Ratajkowski on reading Demi Moore’s book: ‘I definitely wrote her off a little bit’

In discussing “how deep some of our ideas about women run,” Ratajkowski admitted to having preconceived notions about people. “You know, I fall victim to those ideas too,” she said. Her example? Moore’s 2019 memoir, Inside Out

She read Moore’s tell-all book in which the 57-year-old actress discussed her career and personal life including her 6-year marriage to Ashton Kutcher. In reading the memoir, Ratajkowski confessed it occurred to her she’d assumed things about Moore because of her looks.

“I realised I had made assumptions about Demi Moore too. I definitely wrote her off a little bit, as an actress, because she was so sexy, because she had that body,” she said.  “And I’m Em Rata, so that’s seriously ironic. It just goes to show how deeply internalised misogyny is.”

She says her image has involved ‘a lot of trial and error’

Talking about her career in the entertainment and modeling industries, Ratajkowski shared she has no “regrets” about how she’s chosen to put her image out there. A lot of times it means her wearing breathtaking outfits on Instagram or making a statement while showing lots of skin like she did with Kim Kardashian West in 2016 when they posed topless together

Asked if she has any regrets about the image she’s presented of herself, the model and actress said she doesn’t exactly wish she had done certain things differently. She said her personal experience has been one of trying different things.

“I think as a young woman you learn your value and your worth in really specific ways and that is a lot of trial and error,” she said. “I don’t regret anything, but are there things that I think, you know, were a case of trial and error for me? Yes. But also, you know, were they my fault?”
