‘Encanto’ Fan Theory Reveals [SPOILER] Is Actually Powering the Magical Madrigal House
Encanto is overflowing with Disney magic in every way imaginable. The Madrigal family has a variety of powers and even their home comes to life with the use of this miracle. However, some audiences wonder who or what is actually powering the house. One fitting Encanto fan theory suggests that one person, in particular, is powering the magical Madgrical home. It gives the movie a whole lot more emotional depth.
[Spoiler alert: This article contains spoilers from Encanto.]
What is the meaning of ‘Encanto’ and the house?
Encanto follows a young Colombian girl named Mirabel (voiced by Stephanie Beatriz). Her Abuela Alma (voiced by María Cecilia Botero) is the matriarch of the family. Each member receives a magical gift from the miraculous candle when they come of age, giving them personalized powers. However, Mirabel is the only one to not get a gift.
The Collins Dictionary defines the word “encanto” as meaning “The allure of something or someone is the pleasing or exciting quality that they have.” This fits within the Disney film’s narrative, its characters, the themes, and the Encanto house itself. The film explores what makes every person special and that sometimes it isn’t so obvious.
Pedro is actually powering the magical Madrigal house
One Redditor shared their Encanto fan theory that explores the magical Madgrical house. This theory suggests that Abuela Alma’s husband, Pablo is actually behind the miracle that exists within the house. The Redditor’s reasoning is rather sound.
The miracle only overtakes the candle after Pedro’s death. As a result of his sacrifice, he ensured his family’s safety for future generations.
The Madrigal household in Encanto is “very protective of the entire family.” This is particularly shown in the movie’s climax. As the home is falling apart, the home uses its final ounce of magic to save Mirabel and her entire family from its own destruction.
Encanto‘s house has a special bond with each member of the family. One Redditor added to the theory in the comments that the audience sees Pedro wave in a flashback similar to how the animated house does.
Disney is telling audiences that while Pedro is gone in a physical sense, he’s always there in spirit looking over his family. His love remains in the house and that love bonds the family together.
‘Encanto’ is now streaming
Encanto is currently nominated for Best Picture – Animated, Best Score Motion Picture, and Best Song Motion Picture at the 2022 Golden Globes. Disney’s latest offering still has the potential to earn a few Oscar nominations for the same categories. Critics and audiences praise the movie, although some criticize Encanto‘s familiar plot structure.
Encanto initially landed in theaters on Nov. 24, which was just in time for the Thanksgiving holiday. However, its theatrical exclusivity wouldn’t last for too long. Its release fit within Disney’s 30-day theatrical window. The magical animated family film hit the streaming service Disney+ on Dec. 24, which was timely with the Christmas holiday.
