Erin Krakow Hints at ‘When Calls the Heart’ Season 9 Premiere Date
Are you ready to go back to Hope Valley? The When Calls the Heart cast is hard at work on season 9, but so far, we don’t know exactly when the new episodes might air, though Hallmark Channel has said the show will return in 2022. However, series star Erin Krakow recently dropped a major hint about when the next season of the popular period drama will premiere.
Erin Krakow says ‘When Calls the Heart’ Season 9 will probably premiere in February 2022
Recently, Krakow, who plays teacher Elizabeth Thornton, took to social media to answer some fan questions. In the Q&A posted to her Instagram Story, she shared some big news with Hearties, who are eagerly awaiting the next chapter in Elizabeth’s story.
One person asked when season 9 would air.
“Probably February 2022!” Krakow replied.
That date is right in line with when When Calls the Heart usually premieres. Since season 3, the show has returned to TV in mid to late February.
‘When Calls the Heart’ Season 9 will have 12 episodes
Hearties will also be thrilled to learn that season 9 will have 12 episodes. The show expanded from 10 episodes to 12 for last season, a change that will continue for the upcoming season. However, there is still no word on whether a When Calls the Heart Christmas special will air later this year.
“#Hearties can look forward to not 10 new eps… but 12! You spoke loudly in S8 with the best ratings in our history… so your voice has been heard!” creator Brian Bird tweeted on July 12.
Season 8 was the most-watched in When Calls the Heart history, averaging 3.3 million viewers per episode.
Krakow promises lots of excitement on the next season of ‘When Calls the Heart’
Like fans, Krakow is eager to see what’s next for Elizabeth and the rest of the residents of Hope Valley.
“We couldn’t be more excited to begin shooting season 9 of When Calls the Heart,” she said in a recent statement shared with ET. “It’s a wonderful feeling being back on set with the amazing cast and crew. There are a lot more stories to tell this season and thanks to the talented writing staff, there will be more drama, adventure, and romance and we can’t wait for our fans to see what Hope Valley has in store.”
Season 8 ended with Elizabeth declaring her love for Lucas (Chris McNally), ending a long-running love triangle between herself, Lucas, and Mountie Nathan Grant (Kevin McGarry). While we don’t have any details about season 9 storylines, those involved in the show have said we can expect to see the next stage of Lucas and Elizabeth’s relationship. Nathan, though he failed to win Elizabeth’s heart, will remain in town, so fans expect new storylines for him as well. We also know that Henry Gowen (Martin Cummins) will likely be back in Hope Valley next season. Though Gowen left town in the finale, Cummins has shared photos on social media of himself back at work on When Calls the Heart.
