Erin Napier Explained Why There Likely Won’t Be a ‘Home Town Takeover’ Season 2 Anytime Soon

Ben and Erin Napier wowed fans when they gave the entire town of Wetumpka, Ala. a facelift in ‘Home Town Takeover.’ While the couple says they loved doing the HGTV show, Erin revealed that family obligations mean they’re unlikely to do a second season anytime soon.

Great news, Home Town fans. Ben and Erin Napier’s hit HGTV series will return for a sixth season, the network has announced. But what about the recent Home Town spinoff, Home Town Takeover? A recent tweet from Erin suggests that it will be some time before we ever see a sophomore season of that show.

In Home Town, the Napiers work with homeowners to renovate houses in Laurel, Miss. In Home Town Takeover, they tackled a much bigger project: renovating an entire town. The couple traveled to Wetumpka, Ala. to give a dozen homes and businesses a refresh. The goal was to help a community that was struggling. Wetumpka, which faced economic challenges and was dealing with the effects of a 2019 tornado, fit the bill.

Ben and Erin wanted to help the town thrive over the long term, so they teamed up with community leaders in order to maximize the effect of the project.

“We sought out people who were already doing good things there,” Ben explained during an appearance on the At Home with Linda & Drew Scott podcast.

“We found the 12 nerve centers that we knew would make the biggest impact once we left because we knew we wouldn’t be there forever,” Erin added. “And it’s important to teach a man to fish versus give a man a fish, so to speak. So by helping the people who are doing so much volunteerism and who were already so invested in Wetumpka, we felt like that would be the best way to have a meaningful impact.”

“I’m glad we were able to do it in a year that really needed some hope,” she said.

Family life would make filming ‘Home Town Takeover’ Season 2 difficult, Erin says

During their appearance on the podcast, Ben and Erin also spoke about the challenges of filming Home Town Takeover during a pandemic, on top of raising their 3-year-old daughter Helen while Erin was also pregnant with their second child. While they had a positive experience overall, it doesn’t sound like it’s one they are planning on repeating in the near future.

“I’ll be honest, the takeover life is not all that simpatico with family life,” Erin wrote in a June 10 tweet. “It was an amazing adventure for us, but likely the only one like it until (maybe) our girls are much older.”

Between their two kids, their HGTV shows (both Home Town and Home Town: Ben’s Workshop are currently in production) and their other ventures, Erin and Ben have their hands full. The couple welcomed their second child, a daughter named Mae, on May 28, 2021.

The experience of simultaneously filming both Home Town and Home Town Takeover during the first months of Erin’s pregnancy was “rough,” Ben told People. “It’s all a blur.”

“We were like, ‘Ooh, this is going to be tough, but we can do it,’ ” Erin said. “We don’t remember anything, but I’m glad somebody was filming all of it.”
