‘Euphoria’: Austin Abrams on Ethan’s Risk of Playing Nate in That Dance Number
Euphoria has finally revealed Lexi’s play (Maude Apatow). Ethan (Austin Abrams) played an important role in it, but it could also put him in danger. This is what the actor had to say about his character.

Different ‘Euphoria’ characters take center stage in Lexi’s play
Lexi usually takes the backseat on the show because the focus is on Rue’s (Zendaya) addiction or her sister, Cassie’s (Sydney Sweeney) life as a popular girl. But all season, she has been working on a play based on her own life.
Ethan also typically is a side character. His scenes showed him were falling for Kat (Barbie Ferreira). However, this season Kat realized she wanted out of their relationship.
She recently broke up with him, giving a weird excuse that she was sick. Ethan called her out for lying. But now he’s back playing an important role in Lexi’s play.
Austin Abrams talked about the ‘violent’ Nate and Ethan’s performance
“The Theater and It’s Double” shows Lexi’s play. The beginning focuses on Lexi, her sister, and their friendships. So almost every character in Euphoria is somehow portrayed in it.
The play shows Ethan playing a version of Nate (Jacob Elordi). Meanwhile, another student plays a version of Maddy named Marta (Izabella Alvarez). There is a scene where Marta wants to be with Nate, but he turns her down to work out with the guys. The guys then start dancing to Bonnie Tyler’s “I Need a Hero,” and it’s pretty obvious most of the men are into each other.
Abrams told Entertainment Tonight that Ethan believes “it takes a lot of guts to be doing what Lexi is doing.” He also addressed how his character is concerned with Nate’s reaction.
“He’s putting himself out there, like with the whole dance number and everything like that,” he said. The actor added his character is concerned with “Nate, who obviously is a violent guy.”
Lexi’s play already ruined 1 relationship
Nate looked embarrassed and almost tearful while watching the dance scene. He stormed out of the auditorium, and Cassie followed him. Nate somewhat blamed Cassie since Lexi is her sister. He told her to get her things out of his place.
Cassie gave up her best friend, Maddy, for this relationship. She also had no problems changing herself for Nate. So it’s not surprising how devastated she looks by the breakup in the end.
The episode ended with “to be continued,” so we will probably see more of Lexi’s play in the next episode. But fans will have to wait to find out if Nate will violently react after being embarrassed by the play.
