Music is an important part of Euphoria, and actor Barbie Ferreira would definitely agree. The series features a stunning soundtrack with Labrinth creating music specifically for the HBO series. Ferreira’s character Kat goes through one of the most dynamic transformations of any character. The actor had a range of emotions to emulate while portraying Kat, and music helped her get in the right mindset.
Here’s how Barbie Ferreira landed the role of Kat in ‘Euphoria’
Euphoria fans know the cast is full of attractive and stylish actors, so they probably won’t be surprised to learn that Barbie Ferreira got her start as a model. At 16 years old she began working at American Apparel and eventually did a shoot modeling the store’s clothes.
“I did it because I wanted to act,” Ferreira said in an interview with Allure. Over the next few years, she went on to model brands such as H&M and Aerie.
According to the outlet, Ferriera landed her role in Euphoria through a two-month audition process. “I made a lot of decisions at a young age that forced me — with no backup plan — to just go for it, and it worked, thank God,” she told Allure.

Kat is a breath of fresh air in Euphoria and the character gets a backstory in season 1 episode 3. At 11 years old, her boyfriend broke up with her when she gained 20 pounds after going on vacation in Jamaica. It’s clear that as the years go by, Kat is often pushed to the background of her friend group or faces ridicule from her fellow students.
“To get into the mindset of Kat, when I’m trying to evoke some sort of anxiety and sadness I listen to ‘Cellophane’ by FKA Twigs,” the actor said in a 2019 interview with MTV.
What Kat’s classmates don’t know is that she is wildly popular online for her fanfiction stories. When she loses her virginity, Kat is initially horrified to realize her sex tape was released on the internet. However, noticing the comments of men drooling over her, she becomes a cam girl and turns it into a lucrative business.
Kat takes back the power, transforming her look to match her powerful self. Of course, Ferreira has a different song choice when emulating this side of Kat in Euphoria. “When I’m trying to be a little bit of a bad b**** I listen to City Girls. ‘Act Up’ I listen to at least once a day. It’s like in our schedule,” she told MTV.
Will Kat and Ethan break up in ‘Euphoria’ Season 2?
Euphoria Season 1 teased a potential relationship between Kat and Ethan, and the pair finally got together in the season finale. However, there’s clearly trouble in paradise in season 2. Kat has been having some interesting fantasies, but they all seem to point to the fact that she’s just bored and annoyed by Ethan.
The promo video for Euphoria Season 2 Episode 6 shows Kat meeting with Ethan at a restaurant. Ethan says, “You made it sound like an emergency,” and Kat definitely looks nervous. It’s very possible that a breakup is on the way for the couple.
