Euphoria returned to HBO for its second season on Jan. 9. Since Euphoria premiered in 2019, Angus Cloud has been a breakout star as Fezco, a local drug dealer and friend of Rue Bennett (Zendaya). Following the premiere of the second season, Cloud was interviewed by GQ Magazine. In the interview, the actor revealed his Euphoria character wasn’t supposed to make it to the second season.

Fezco was supposed to die in season 1 of ‘Euphoria’

Euphoria was created by Sam Levinson and stars Zendaya as Rue. The show also features Maude Apatow, Eric Dane, Jacob Elordi, Hunter Schafer, Sydney Sweeney, Alexa Demie, Barbie Ferreira, Colman Domingo, and Algee Smith.

While Euphoria boasts a cast of established actors, Cloud was asked to join the show after being spotted by a casting agent. Fezco became a fan-favorite character, and his backstory was revealed in the season 2 premiere of Euphoria.

Speaking with GQ Magazine, Cloud revealed that he didn’t know he would get a backstory episode.

“No, I was supposed to die in season 1, bro,” the actor said.

When pressed, Cloud explained:

“I don’t know, but apparently, because they cast me off the street, I guess the character of Fezco was [never meant to stick around]. I don’t even know how. I never saw that script. No one ever told me. It was one day when we were filming the pilot that I think Jacob told me, he was like, ‘Oh yeah, you didn’t know? Your character gets [imitates brains getting blown out].’ And yeah, it never ended up happening. I think that they liked what I did and so they decided to keep me alive and let me rock. I don’t know how I was going out, but hopefully I would’ve gone out like a G.”

Angus Cloud does not know why they changed his character’s fate

Because Cloud did not have acting experience before joining the cast of Euphoria, he told GQ Magazine he does not know why he was hired or kept on the show for so long.

“I don’t know. I still don’t understand it, to be honest with you, man. I really don’t because I still get up and I’m like, ‘What the heck? What am I doing here? Why did they not hire a professional actor?’ I just had to come to terms because during the filming of the pilot everyone would compliment me and say, ‘Oh you’re killing it, man.’ And I was like, ‘No, I’m not, but thank you for trying to make me feel better,'” Cloud said.

He continued, “Because I just felt like I had no idea what I was doing. I felt like I was doing a terrible job. So yeah, it gave me that solid evidence that was like, ‘D***, actually I guess I must be doing something right.'”

‘Euphoria’ fans will see Fezco’s softer side

There will be eight episodes of season 2 of Euphoria, and each episode will air weekly on HBO. Cloud told GQ Magazine that fans of the show will see Fezco’s “softer side” throughout the second season.

“I’m excited for y’all to see how he kind of comes out of his hard shell a little bit and he kind of exposes his softer side. You see a little bit of his innocence and you see that he’s kind of been forced into this life…,” Cloud said.

New episodes of Euphoria premiere on HBO every Sunday at 9 p.m. ET.
