A show like Euphoria hammers the viewers with so much drama from drug use to graphic sex scenes; it’s easy to forget about one of the more curious aspects of the series – a third Jacobs brother. In Euphoria Season 1, eagle-eyed fans spotted a family portrait of the Jacobs family with not two but three children. With no reveal of this mysterious extra brother by the end of season 1, Euphoria Season 2 has hinted at him once again.

‘Euphoria’ Season 2 shows the Jacobs family continuing to be the worst

Nate Jacobs, played by Jacob Elordi, easily snags the title of “Worst Character in Euphoria.” However, his family might be close runners-up. Nate manipulates every person in his life. He’s verbally and physically abusive, and his overall erratic behavior makes him a loose cannon. His father, Cal (Eric Dane), showcases similar tendencies, and Euphoria Season 2 shows both of them in violent fights. 

Euphoria Season 2 Episode 4 culminated with Cal confessing to cheating on his wife and telling Nate he was his biggest regret. Before he walks out of his home and away from his family, he picks up a framed photo and takes it with him. While Cal’s speech and exit were shocking enough, fans noticed yet another Jacobs family photo, including what appears to be a third mystery brother.

When the third Jacobs brother popped up in a family portrait in Euphoria Season 1, Entertainment Weekly asked Elordi what he knew about the situation. Unfortunately, he was in the dark as well, “I have no idea. I was like, ‘You do realize that there’s a different child in this picture?’ And everyone just didn’t really say anything. I don’t know.”

Because the child from the portrait never materialized in season 1, fans assumed it was a continuity error. However, Euphoria Season 2 has brought the mysterious third Jacobs brother back to the forefront of plenty of fans’ minds.

Fans want a backstory about the third Jacobs brother in ‘Euphoria’ Season 2

The reappearance of a photo including three Jacobs sons has fans speculating. Why has no one in the show mentioned it? Some believe the youngest Jacobs child is dead, and Nate is to blame.

One Redditor wrote, “He’s my loose theory: in some vague way Nate was responsible for his death. And shortly thereafter is when Nate decided to become manly and powerful and found his fathers porn and became the monster he is today. And I’m assuming either the family doesn’t know he was responsible or he is more responsible than they realize.”

Others agreed but added that this might be why Cal told Nate he was his biggest regret, “After the Nate being Cals biggest regret comment, I’m sure he had something to do with it.”

Another wild theory included a house fire. “I have a theory. I feel like they had a fire or something in their house years ago and Cal had to save either Nate or the un-named 3rd son. He chose to save Nate and that’s what he regrets the most. He saved the messed up son. The fact that Marsha lost her child and it was Cal who chose who got to live made her sort of dislike Cal and she fell in love with the love letter guy, whose letters she still had,” chimed in another Reddit user.

A secret, dead brother certainly wouldn’t be the wildest thing fans have seen on Euphoria Season 2 so far. Tune in to HBO or HBO Max on Sunday nights to watch new episodes.
