‘Euphoria’ Season 2: Why Is ‘Stand By Me’ Fez and Lexi’s Favorite Film? It Perfectly Captures Their Bond
Fez and Lexi (played by Angus Cloud and Maude Apatow) are a fan-favorite couple in Euphoria Season 2. And their bond strengthened even more in Euphoria Season 2 Episode 6. In episode 6, “A Thousand Little Trees of Blood,” Lexi and Fez bonded over their shared love of Stand By Me, a classic coming-of-age tale. Here’s why Euphoria incorporating Stand By Me works perfectly for their characters.

Are Fez and Lexi dating? ‘Euphoria’ Season 2 starts to show their bond
Fez and Lexi seem like two outsiders looking in on Euphoria Season 2. When they first meet at a New Year’s Eve party, the major drama of the night surrounds Cassie, Maddy, and Nate. Lexi, unsure of where Cassie is, eventually strikes a conversation with Fez. The two seem into each other, and everything continues to go well until Fez physically assaults Nate for everything he’s done to his friends, Rue and Jules.
So, are Fez and Lexi dating? In Euphoria Season 2 Episode 6, fans see Fez and Lexi’s bond grow. Lexi has curlers in her hair for some of the episode, and it’s clear she’s looking to impress Fez prior to their hangout. When Lexi shows up at Fez’s home, they discuss the play Lexi is creating — and that’s also when the pair begin talking about Stand By Me.
“What exactly is the idea behind the play?” Fez asks Lexi.
“It’s, like, about a group of girlfriends who sort of grow up and grow apart,” Lexi answers.
“D*mn, so, it’s kind of like Stand By Me,” Fez notes, starting the conversation about the film.
Was ‘Stand By Me’ a true story? The plot captures Fez and Lexi perfectly
So, what is Stand By Me about? The movie referenced in Euphoria Season 2 Episode 6 centers around four boys from Oregon who go on a quest to find the dead body of a stranger. The film centers on the quest of the boys, but it also maintains themes of nostalgia, growing up, and maturing. Rolling Stone reminds us the boys in the film have difficult backstories, some of which center around abuse and tragedy at home. Despite it all, they bond through attempting to find a stranger’s body and become local heroes for doing so.
While Lexi and Fez aren’t attempting to find any dead bodies, they’re both attempting to make connections despite their difficult backstories and living situations. Lexi seemingly lives in the shadow of Cassie, especially as Cassie deals with the drama surrounding Nate and Maddy. Fez had a seemingly difficult and dangerous life with his grandmother, as viewers saw in a flashback this season.
Additionally, the film centers around growing up and moving from one stage of life into the next. There’s a sense of longing between the four boys, and there’s certainly longing when it comes to Fez and Lexi. Lexi longs to have and do something for herself, hence why she’s creating the play. It seems Fez might also long for peace and connection, which he’s finding with Lexi. It’s clear the show writers wanted Lexi and Fez to have a favorite film that incorporated nostalgia, danger, and the simpler times of childhood.
Is Stand By Me a true story? Screen Rant reports the movie is based on The Body, a novella by Stephen King. King used aspects of his childhood memories to write The Body, so it seems there are parts of Stand By Me that are autobiographical.
Fez might have to support Lexi as her play begins in ‘Euphoria’ Season 2 Episode 7
Fans might get to see Lexi’s play in Euphoria Season 2 Episode 7. The teaser for the next episode shows Maddy and Rue in the theater watching it. “Wait, is this f***ing play about us?” Maddy asks as the characters are revealed.
It seems Lexi’s high school comrades aren’t too happy with the idea of their lives on full display in a play. But Fez looks proud. He’s in a tux with a bundle of red roses seemingly to give to Lexi for all of her hard work on the play. And we wouldn’t be surprised if he has to defend her after what she produces.
Euphoria Season 2 Episode 7 airs Sunday, Feb. 20, 2022, at 9 p.m. EST on HBO Max.
