‘Euphoria’ Season 2: Will Cal Ever See Derek Again? Eric Dane Thinks This Actor Should Play the Adult Version
The HBO series Euphoria focuses on the complicated lives of teenagers, and season 2 is no different. However, episode 3 offered a unique perspective that hasn’t been done before. The episode focused on Cal Jacobs and told his story through flashbacks to his teenage years. Cal was in love with his best friend Derek, but the pair could never be together. Eric Dane explains what he thinks happened between Derek and Cal after Marsha’s pregnancy and who would be perfect to play an adult version of Derek.

Euphoria Season 2 Episode 3 gave Cal Jacob’s a backstory that explains a lot about him. Cal had a best friend named Derek and the pair spent all their time together. Cal clearly has an attraction toward Derek, but he initially ignores it. Both Derek and Cal get girlfriends of their own.
One night the pair go out to celebrate their high school graduation, just the two of them. Derek takes Cal to a gay bar where the pair can finally explore their feelings for each other. They dance together and share a kiss, and Cal wakes up smiling the next morning. However, Cal soon receives a phone call from Marsha telling him she is pregnant.
Cal does what he feels is right and stays with Marsha to raise the baby. Unfortunately, this also means that he ends up hiding a part of himself for the next couple of decades.
Will Cal ever see Derek again? Eric Dane thinks this actor would be the perfect adult version
Actor Eric Dane plays Cal in Euphoria Season 2. Although he didn’t directly answer whether Cal and Derek will ever see each other again, he did say that he doesn’t believe the pair still keep in touch. “I think they went their separate ways,” Dane said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.
“I think once Cal settled in with Marsha in those circumstances, he completely blocked out everything from that part of his life. He completely ignored it and did so for years, and what happens is that if you don’t listen to your body, eventually it’s gonna have its way with you.”
Still, Dane did have an answer for who he thought would make a good adult version of Derek, should he ever appear on the show. “That would be interesting. The grown version of Derek would have to be like [Pause] Can we get Brad Pitt to do this?” he said to Entertainment Weekly.
Cal leaves his family in ‘Euphoria’ Season 2 Episode 4
In Euphoria Season 2 Episode 4, Cal revisits the bar where he and Derek kissed. He gets too drunk and rowdy and ends up getting kicked out. Then Cal goes home and tells his wife and sons about his sexuality in a surprisingly honest monologue. “I thought, ‘This is fantastic,'” Dane said of the scene in an interview with TV Line.
“I thought, ‘This is so great.’ It was so well written. And then I thought, “S***, I better start working on this now because this is a mouthful.” And then when we shot it, God, it was so much fun.” After Cal’s speech to his family and urinating on the floor, he takes the family portrait and leaves. Dane told TV Line, “We find out later in the season where he goes.”
