‘Euphoria’ Season 3: Fans Predict Ashtray’s Funeral and Laurie’s Comeback in the Premiere
After the finale of Euphoria Season 2, fans of the HBO series took to Reddit to discuss how season 3 might start. We may not be getting new episodes of Euphoria until 2024, but that gives us plenty of time to piece together where the next season might kick-off. These are some of the best Euphoria fan theories about season 3.
Ashtray might be alive in ‘Euphoria’ Season 3 premiere
In an interview with Esquire that came out the day after the Euphoria Season 2 finale, Javon Walton teased the idea of his character Ashtray surviving the drug bust. “Man, I just hope he’s alive,” Walton said of his Euphoria role. “I’m sure he didn’t just get shot one time by taking cover in the bathtub and getting shot through the wall.”
“It’s not confirmed that Ashtray is dead,” the actor said in another interview (via Twitter). “It looks like he got shot, but he’s one bad kid. He might still be alive out there — you never know.”
If Ashtray is alive, that would be what fans are calling a “perfect plot twist” (via Reddit). But fans are going to have to wait until 2024 to find out.
Fez, Lexi, and Rue might attend Ashtray’s funeral
If Ash ends up dead, some fans think season 3 will open up with his funeral. “I think [the first episode of season 3 will show] Ash’s funeral and some juxtaposition of Fez [Angus Cloud] being upset he wasn’t conditionally released to go to it,” one Redditor theorized.
Since Fez was taken into custody at the end of season 2, some fans think he won’t be allowed to go to Ash’s funeral at all, considering he isn’t blood-related. Fans can see Lexi [Maude Apatow] and Rue [Zendaya] taking initiative and planning the funeral, though.
Laurie could enact revenge on Rue in ‘Euphoria’ Season 3
While it hasn’t been addressed since Rue got clean, she still owes drug kingpin Laurie (Martha Kelly) $10,000 for the suitcase of drugs she didn’t sell. Some think season 3 could start with Laurie coming out of the woodwork to get what she’s owed.
“[The episode might open with] Rue and Lexi riding their bikes, laughing, having fun,” writes one fan, elaborating:
“They stop and chit chat for a few before parting ways. As Rue starts the ride home alone … happy about her revamped friendship, a van pulls up and Rue is abducted.”
‘Euphoria’ fans joke about Elliot’s song being a fixture in the season 3 premiere
Elliot’s performance in the Euphoria Season 2 finale sparked outrage among some fans. Many thought the scene took away from other plot points they wanted to be flushed out. The response was so strong Dominic Fike felt humbled by the memes circulating about his character after the episode aired.
“The last five minutes of Elliot’s song,” someone commented in the thread about where season 3 might pick up. Elliot pointed out how the song wasn’t complete in the season 2 finale, so some fans joke showrunners could present the finished version of “Little Star” in season 3.
