‘Euphoria’: Sydney Sweeney Teased That Cassie Will Have a Twist She ‘Couldn’t Even Guess’; One Theory Involves Stripping
All of the main characters in HBO’s Euphoria came into their own in the first season, and also had a hard time doing so. Not all of them kept it together, and they actually all experience a tragedy of some sort. And according to actor Sydney Sweeney, Cassie’s story in Season 2 has a major twist she didn’t see coming.
Cassie had a rough year but things seem to be cooling down at the end of Season 1
Cassie lives with her sister, Lexi, and their mom. Lexi is very softspoken compared to her sister, but they seem to have an understated bond. Their dad isn’t around much anymore, and Cassie was heartbroken by him as a little girl.
Now, as a teen, she’s looking for love and affection in a lot of unfortunate boys and is disrespected by nearly all of them. She ends up getting pregnant by McKay and chooses to go through with an abortion.
Her character gets more and more beaten down as the season progresses, and by the time she’s having that procedure, she’s at her lowest point. It seems like she is a bit more realistic at the dance at the end of the season; she grew up a lot.

With that said, will that growth make it into Season 2? Or will she regress a little? According to Sweeney, something with Cassie’s upcoming storyline is going to shock viewers.
“You won’t even be able to guess what’s coming… I couldn’t even guess it,” Sweeney told Entertainment Tonight in April. “Creator Sam [Levinson] called me over the summer, going, ‘So what do you think Cassie’s going to do next season? Where do you think she’s gonna go?’ I’m like, ‘I don’t know, maybe she does this or that.’ He’s like, ‘Ahh yeah. No!'”
Whatever he has in store surprised Sweeney. She said that if she didn’t guess it, she doesn’t think the fans will.
“If anybody’s able to guess it, you’re very good,” she said. “It’s just shocking. I mean, everything with life as a teenager is shocking, so you never know what to expect.”
Fans have their theories, of course
With the delay of Season 2 and the love fans have for this show, viewers are dying to know what she’s referring to. Of course, they do have their guesses.
On Reddit one user thinks someone in Cassie’s life is going to die, like Lexi or one of their parents. Maybe even McKay, who she cut things off with after she got pregnant.
While viewers saw her go through with the abortion, one Reddit user thinks that the shocker could be that it didn’t work. And maybe Season 2 shows Cassie dealing with the unwanted pregnancy. Or possibly deciding what to do about it.
“Perhaps the abortion was unsuccessful,” the user wrote. “It is rare, but it happens. It can also be botched and leave a person very unwell and needing emergency treatment.”
However, Cassie did seem to go to a reputable place with her mother and sister there for support. It’s hard to imagine her mother taking her somewhere that would “botch” her abortion. But accidents happen, so it’s a possibility.
The last theory comes from user u/zeygun who wrote that she could become a stripper. While that seems entirely out of left field, that could work. For one, that does give the shock-factor, since it’s random and slightly out of character. But another reason is that the casting list for Season 2 did ask for a stripper.
According to Teen Vogue, the new character’s name is Ami, and she’s “a stripper… who hates her boyfriend.” Could Ami be a new friend Cassie makes while stripping? Only Season 2 could reveal.
