Actor and activist Evan Rachel Wood is accusing Marilyn Manson of abuse. The former celebrity couple’s relationship ended more than a decade ago but it’s back in the spotlight because of Wood’s allegations.

In a statement she posted to Instagram on Feb. 1, 2021, Wood alleges Manson abused her during their relationship.
“The name of my abuser is Brian Warner, also known to the world as Marilyn Manson,” Wood wrote. “He started grooming me when I was a teenager and horrifically abused me for years. I was brainwashed and manipulated into submission.”
She continued, saying, “I am done living in fear of retaliation, slander, or blackmail. I am here to expose this dangerous man and call out the many industries that have enabled him before he ruins any more lives. I stand with the many victims who will no longer be silent.”
Wood’s previously spoken about being abused by a former partner but never named them. Following her latest statement, others have shared similar accounts. At the time of publication, Vanity Fair has reported at least four women have come forward about alleged abuse involving Manson.
Marilyn Manson and Evan Rachel Wood are 18 years apart
Born in Raleigh, North Carolina, on Sept. 7, 1987, Wood is 33 years old. She began acting as a kid. Throughout the ‘90s she appeared in various TV shows, TV movies, and feature films.
Her breakout role, which remains one of her most recognizable, happened in 2003. Wood played Tracy Freeland, a rebellious teen in Thirteen, opposite Twilight’s Nikki Reed. Her latest role is playing Dolores Abernathy on Westworld. Her work on the series landed her a Critics’ Choice Television Award in 2016.
Born Brian Warner on Jan. 5, 1969, in Canton, Ohio, Manson is 52. He rose to fame as the frontman for his namesake rock band in the ‘90s. Throughout the course of his career, he’s performed on a number of TV shows including CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and Riverdale. His music’s been featured in movies such as The Matrix.

Wood and Manson went public with their relationship in 2007. According to Rolling Stone, an 18-year-old Wood met Manson at the Chateau Marmont. At the time he was married to Dita Von Teese. Wood went on to appear in Manson’s music video for “Heart-Shaped Glasses.”
“I met somebody that promised freedom and expression and no judgments,” she told Rolling Stone in 2016. “And I was craving danger and excitement.”
“I looked at my mother one day and said, ‘Mom, I’m gonna get on this tour bus for eight months and see the world and have a crazy journey and find myself,’” she added. “‘And if people aren’t OK with that, I’m sorry, but I can’t live my life for other people.’”
After a three-year romance, they became engaged in January 2010. But it proved to be short-lived. The couple called off their engagement only seven months later.
Manson married Lindsay Usich in 2020. As for Wood, her two-year marriage to actor Jamie Bell ended in 2014. She’s not known to have a current partner.
