Every Time Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds Were Couple Goals

There are plenty of different reasons to admire a couple, whether it be their obvious chemistry, a shared passion, or the fact they simply take the best pictures together. Some couples, however, seem like the whole package — and Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds are one of them.

Take their relationship’s origin story, for example — the two were close friends before making things official — or the fact that they met on a blind double date where they were both set up with someone else. Each tidbit of information Blake and Ryan give us about their relationship just reinforces that these two were meant to be — and we’re here for every minute of it.

Their first date story is something out of a romcom

Blake and Ryan first met when they costarred as love interests in Green Lantern. Ryan was married to Scarlett Johanson at the time and Blake was dating her Gossip Girl costar, Penn Badgley.

Fast forward a year and a half later and both Blake and Ryan were single — and ready to meet someone. It seemed like the only thing the two hadn’t year considered was that they’d be good for each other.

“We were such good friends for so long and we both got to know each other as friends so when we were both single, we were still trying to find each other’s [perfect date]—’Oh, who would be good for you?'” Blake to.d Entertainment Weekly. “We’d sit around being like, ‘Oh jeez, do you know anyone?’ And it didn’t click for, I mean, a good year and a half. Like, ‘Oh hey, wait, hold on. We could date!'” Blake and Ryan decided to set each other up on a blind double date and go together to ease the tension.

“That was the most awkward date for the respective parties,” Ryan later told Entertainment Weekly, “Because we were just like fireworks coming across [the table].”

They moved quickly — because they knew it was right

Ryan told GQ about one of the moments he knew he and Blake were right for each other. “… we were hanging out at this little restaurant in Tribeca that’s open really late, and this song came on and I was just like, ‘Want to dance?’ No one was in there, so it was just totally empty. And it was just one of those moments where halfway through the dance, it was like, “Oh, I think I just crossed a line.” And then I walked her home.”

Blake and Ryan had been friends for a few years and could skip the “getting to know you stage,” jumping into the fast line and immediately dating. They quickly moved in together and tied the knot — doing both before their publicized romance hit the one-year mark.

Their version of PDA? Trolling each other on social media

The couple is actually pretty relatable if you ignore the fact they have millions (in both money and followers), very little privacy in their personal life, and are drop-dead gorgeous. But if you pay attention to how they troll one another on Instagram and Twitter, you’ll quickly fall in love with their relationship — not just as partners, but as friends.

Their hijinks gained attention when the two started posting celebratory Instagram pictures for one another that nearly cropped their partner out. Case in point: Blake Lively’s “Happy birthday” post to her husband … that showed off the wrong Ryan.

Blake most recently celebrated her husband’s new venture, Aviation Gin, by leaving a cheeky comment on Ryan’s celebratory post. “Who needs a mini van?” She commented on his photo of an Aviation Gin ad on the side of the supply truck. “I’m driving this from now on. Subtle, gorgeous, and OHMYGAWDYOUREHUGE.”

Cheers to that, Ryan!
