Prince William and Kate Middleton are the parents of three: Prince George, 8, Princess Charlotte, 6, and Prince Louis, 3. But thanks to some of their recent public appearances, it appears that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have baby No. 4 on the brain. Here’s everything William and Kate have said publicly about the possibility of having another baby.

Kate Middleton recently confessed to feeling ‘broody’

Due to her work with early childhood education, Kate interacts with a lot of parents, babies, and toddlers during her royal engagements. During a trip to Northern Ireland in 2019, Kate met a 5-month-old baby named James and was very honest about the way the little one made her feel.

“He’s gorgeous. It makes me feel broody,” Kate said, according to Hello! magazine.

Later that year, an insider claimed that Kate would “love to have one more child.” But another source noted that William was happy with three.

In 2020, during a trip to Yorkshire, England, Kate told a fan that she doesn’t think William “wants any more” children, according to Us Weekly. And if baby No. 4 was actually on the way, Kate said that William “would be a little worried.”

Speculation about Prince William and Kate Middleton having baby No. 4 began right after Prince Louis’ birth

Ever since Prince Louis‘ birth, there has been speculation that William and Kate would add another child to their family. The betting houses in England had good odds that an announcement would come in 2021. But it didn’t happen.

At the age of 40, Kate could be done with having babies. In the past, she’s experienced extreme morning sickness — aka hyperemesis gravidarum — during her pregnancies.

Last year, another source told Us Weekly that “having four children was always part of Kate’s plan.” That insider noted it took a while for William and Kate to get on the same page about having another baby.

“Kate’s desires to have another child have inspired him, and at the end of the day, he loves and appreciates the secure family setting he never had growing up. Why not make it bigger?” the insider shared.

Prince William says don’t give his wife ‘any more ideas’

During a January visit to the Clitheroe Community Hospital in Lancashire, England, William and Kate talked with health care workers about their efforts to keep their community safe during the pandemic. While visiting with hospital staff, the duchess cradled one of the attendee’s babies. And it was clear that she was enjoying holding on to the little one.

“Don’t give my wife any more ideas!” William joked, per US Weekly.

Everyone laughed at the duke’s comment, but he wasn’t done just yet. As Kate returned the baby girl to her parents, William joked, “Don’t take her with you.”

The most recent public outing that featured Kate talking about another baby happened in February. Per Hello!, the Duchess of Cambridge admitted to wanting another child while talking with parents and their babies during an appearance at the Copenhagen’s Children Museum.

The duchess joked that Prince William gets worried when she works with kids under the age of 1 because she always returns home wanting “another one.”
