Everything We Know About Disney+’s ‘The Mighty Ducks’ Series Starring Emilio Estevez and Lauren Graham
This week, a ton of news came out about the upcoming The Mighty Ducks series on Disney+. With heavyweights on the cast, including one huge returner, we are learning a lot more information about the show, which is debuting later this year.
What is the new series about?
The Disney+ series is a 10-episode series based on the 1990s film franchise. The film’s star, Emilio Estevez, is returning as a star and producer.
The show will also star Lauren Graham along with Brady Noon, Swayam Bhatia, Taegen Burns, Julee Cerda, Bella Higginbotham, Luke Islam, Kiefer O’Reilly, Maxwell Simkins, and De’Jon Watts.
The official description of the series from Disney+, “In present-day Minnesota, the Mighty Ducks have evolved from scrappy underdogs to an ultra-competitive, powerhouse youth hockey team. After 12-year-old Evan (Noon) is unceremoniously cut from the Ducks, he and his mom Alex (Graham) set out to build their own ragtag team of misfits to challenge the cutthroat, win-at-all-costs culture of competitive youth sports. With the help of Gordon Bombay (Estevez), they discover the joys of playing just for the love of the game.”
What Emilio Estevez says about returning
“Once a Duck, always a Duck!,” said Estevez, “and after 25 years, I am delighted to lace up my skates, put on Coach Bombay’s jacket and return to play the iconic character for this new chapter in ‘The Mighty Ducks’ franchise. Likewise, I am thrilled to return to my old stomping grounds with my friends at Disney and Steve Brill, the original creator of the franchise, to join them on their exciting new platform, Disney+.”
The original creator of all three films, Steve Brill, is the co-creator and executive producer of the new series. Graham is an executive producer as well.
The show is produced by ABC Signature Studios, which is a part of Disney Television Studios. The Mighty Ducks will be on Disney+ later this year.
