Ex-‘Chrisley Knows Best’ Star Julie Chrisley Isn’t Getting Out of Prison Anytime Soon
Julie Chrisley will remain behind bars. On Sept. 25, a judge declined to reduce the former Chrisley Knows Best star’s prison sentence for fraud and tax evasion.
Julie Chrisley resentenced to seven years in prison
In 2022, Julie and her husband Todd Chrisley were found guilty of evading taxes and cheating multiple banks out of more than $30 million through fraudulent loans. Julie was sentenced to seven years in prison; Todd received a 12-year sentence.
In June 2024, a federal appeals court revisited the case against the Chrisleys. The panel of three judges upheld the convictions but determined that there had been an error in calculating Julie’s sentence because she was not responsible for the entire fraud scheme. The case was sent back to a lower court so that she could be resentenced.
While Julie’s attorney wanted her sentence reduced to five years or less, the federal prosecutor argued that the original, seven-year sentence was appropriate. U.S. District Judge Eleanor Ross agreed with the prosecutor. She said she’d already taken into account Julie’s age and the fact that she was a caretaker for young children and that the original sentence was below the guidelines for her crimes.
Ross resentenced the reality TV personality to seven years. Julie has already served 20 months and is scheduled for release in April 2028. Todd, 56, is currently serving his 12-year sentence in a prison in Florida. He is due to be released in July 2032.
In court on Wednesday, Julie apologized publicly for the first time for her crimes.
“I’m sorry for my actions and situations that led us to where we are today,” she said, according to People.
“This has been the most difficult part of my life,” she added. “I can’t ever repay my children for what they’ve had to go through and for that, I am so sorry.”
Ex-’Chrisley Knows Best’ star Savannah Chrisley blames politics for her parents’ prison sentences
Julie’s daughter Savannah Chrisley was in court for her mother’s resentencing. The 27-year-old, who appeared on Chrisley Knows Best and the spinoff series Growing Up Chrisley, now has custody of her minor siblings. She said her parents were behind bars because of politics.
“That’s what you get with an Obama-appointed judge,” she said as her mother left court, the AP reported.
During an appearance in support of Donald Trump at the Republican National Convention in July, Savannah claimed her parents were “persecuted by rogue prosecutors in Fulton County, [Georgia] due to our public profile … and conservative beliefs.”
USA Network canceled the Chrisley family’s reality series in the wake of Todd and Julie’s convictions. But Savannah has been plotting a return to TV. She has been filming a new show with her siblings and grandmother Nanny Faye. In March 2024, she told People she was “in talks” with various networks in an effort to find a home for the show. She also appeared on an episode of The Masked Singer in 2024 and as a contestant on Special Forces: The World’s Toughest Test in 2023.
