‘Falcon and the Winter Soldier’: Anthony Mackie Was ‘Horrified’ By Sebastian Stan’s Transformation into Tommy Lee
Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan have a close relationship. The two have been working on Marvel projects, such as the Avengers franchise, together for the last several years, but their most recent collaboration has been the most popular by far.
The two worked together on Disney+’s highly successful limited series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. The show, which consists of only six episodes, focuses on the two of them in the events following Avengers: Endgame.
Thanks to the popularity of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Mackie and Stan have been getting opportunities for many more roles lately. Stan recently landed the lead role in an upcoming Hulu series, Pam & Tommy, which will dramatize the lives of Tommy Lee and Pamela Anderson. Hilariously, Mackie admits Stan’s shocking transformation horrified him when he first saw it.

Mackie shared his thoughts on Stan’s makeover during a recent interview with Variety.
“It’s amazing,” Mackie said.
Even though images of Stan as Lee only recently made their rounds on social media, Mackie had gotten an early look at Stan’s makeover after the actor sent him some content while he was working on set. The images Mackie saw initially horrified him, but his reaction quickly changed.
“He sent me a video on set and a few photos, and I was blown away. I mean, I was really surprised and impressed that he was able to do it. I was horrified. I was like, ‘What are you doing? You’re playing Tommy Lee? And the first picture he sent me …”
He’s proud of the success Sebastian Stan is finding
Mackie noted that the shocking transformation simply means that Stan is doing his job very well, and that he’s very proud of his Falcon and the Winter Soldier co-star.
“It’s just humbling when you see your friend and he succeeds. And he crushed it. I mean, he really was able to transform, and that’s every actor’s dream with every role you play.”
Mackie alluded to the fact that he always knew Stan had the ability to transform for roles.
“You have no idea, and that’s what’s so great,” Mackie said. “Just being able to see him and Sebastian is a great actor, and him getting his just due. And people being able to see him for the chameleon that he is, not just the beautifully amazing blue-eyed god that he is. It’s very refreshing to see a friend win.”
Anthony Mackie made fun of Sebastian’s Stan’s toe injury from ‘Falcon and the Winter Soldier’
Later in the interview, Mackie made fun of Stan for injuring his toe while working on The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
“It’s very Sebastian Stan for all of this [gestures up and down body], for you to hurt your little toe. That’s perfect quid pro quo for Sebastian.”
Despite Stan’s misfortunes, Mackie was unharmed while working on the show.
“Not at all, I was very lucky,” Stan said. “I’ve learned how to land and not hurt myself. I did all of that back in the day of all the early movies. Now, when I know I’ma crash, I just tumble and roll.”
There’s no word on whether or not there will be a second season of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, but there will be a Captain America 4 movie.
