Who is Julia Louis-Dreyfus in ‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’?
In The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, the Seinfeld legend stars as Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, aka Val. For casual viewers, many are trying to unpack Val’s appearance on the series.
She magically appeared on the scene after John Walker is stripped of his Captain America title after publicly murdering a Flag Smasher. Val assured John that the government had no qualms about what he’d done, but they needed to make an example out of him publically.
She also seemed to know that John had taken the Super-Soldier Serum and she revealed to him that he was “very valuable to certain people.” Val also explained to him that the Captain America shield didn’t actually belong to the government.
Though her appearance on the show might have been short-lived, Val is a major character in the Marvel comics.
Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine is a huge Marvel villain
Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine made her Marvel debut way back in 1967. Initially, fans got to know her as a former Italian socialite-turned-S.H.I.E.L.D. agent who was Nick Fury’s main love interest. She also led a team of all-female S.H.I.E.L.D. agents called Femme Force.
However, fans soon realized she was actually an evil villain, specifically a Russian spy who became known as Madame Hydra. Val also happened to have unrequited feelings for Steve Rodgers.
Though Chris Evans’ Captain America never got a chance to face off with Madame Hydra, Falcon and the Winter Soldier seems to be positioning her to go up against Sam Wilson,
Fans are going to wait to find out exactly how she fits in the puzzle during the show’s season finale, but we wouldn’t be surprised if she were the mysterious Power Broker.
Julia Louis-Dreyfus might appear in Marvel’s ‘Black Widow’
Now that we’ve seen Val recruit John, it seems that she might be assembling a team of super-villains. According to Vanity Fair, Louis-Dreyfus is set to reprise her role as Val in Black Widow. This may not be the last we’ve seen of her on a Disney+ series either. Since Nick Fury is set to be the star of the Disney+ show Secret Invasion, Val could also appear on that series as well.
