Fans Are Disgusted With Lea Michele and Her Fake Apology After the ‘Glee’ Cast Accused Her of Racism
Amid the current Black Lives Matter protests following several murders of unarmed Black people at the hands of police, people across the globe are demanding that everyone stands up against racism and anti-Blackness. For many people, this means that racist behaviors are coming to light. Glee alum Lea Michele was dragged by her former Glee castmates for her racist behavior.
Almost as quickly as the stories of Michele’s heinous behavior came to light, she was dropped by the brand, Hello Fresh. She remained silent until the early morning of June 3, but instead of a heartfelt apology that fans had hoped for, she refused to acknowledge her racism and gave a fake apology.
Now, fans are dragging her and calling for her cancelation.
Lea Michele’s racist behavior is being called out by her ‘Glee’ co-stars
Accountability and anti-racism is so important, but not if you’re simply trying to jump on a bandwagon without addressing yourself. Lea Michele tweeted in favor of Black Lives Matter following the murder of George Floyd.
“George Floyd did not deserve this,” she tweeted. “This was not an isolated incident and it must end. #BlackLivesMatter.” However, her former Black co-stars on Glee remembered a very different version of Michele from her time on the show.
“LMAO, REMEMBER WHEN YOU MADE MY FIRST TELEVISION GIG A LIVING HELL?!?!” actress Samantha Marie Ware wrote. “CAUSE I’LL NEVER FORGET. I BELIEVE YOU TOLD EVERYONE THAT IF YOU HAD THE OPPORTUNITY YOU WOULD ‘S*IT IN MY WIG!’ AMONG OTHER TRAUMATIC MICRO AGGRESSIONS THAT MADE ME QUESTION A CAREER IN HOLLYWOOD…”
Actress Jeanté Godlock jumped in to say, “Did somebody say cockroaches?” she tweeted. “Because that’s what she used to refer to the background as on the set of Glee. But we grow up and we don’t stay background forever sooooo…”
“GIRL YOU WOULDNT LET ME SIT AT THE TABLE WITH THE OTHER CAST MEMBERS CAUSE “I DIDNT BELONG THERE” FU*K YOU LEA,” Black Lightning actor Dabier added. Amber Riley who played Mercedes Jones on the show co-signed everything with a couple of telling GIFs. Naya Rivera has also addressed Michele’s horrible behavior in the past.
Lea Michele responded with a horrendous apology
Michele issued an alleged apology where she refused to take accountability or acknowledge her own racism claiming she didn’t remember it.
“When I tweeted the other day, it was meant to be a show of support for our friends and neighbors and communities of color during this really difficult time, but the responses I received to what I posted have made me also focus specifically on how my own behavior towards fellow cast members was perceived by them,” she wrote. “While I don’t remember ever making this specific statement and I have never judged others by their background or color of their skin, that’s not really the point, what matters is that I clearly acted in ways which hurt other people. Whether it was my privileged position and perspective that caused me to be perceived as insensitive or inappropriate at times or whether it was just my immaturity and me just being unnecessarily difficult, I apologize for my behavior and for any pain which I have caused.”
Fans are disgusted with Lea Michele
In her 2016 book Sorry Not Sorry, Rivera called out Michele’s awful behavior and now that her co-stars have backed her up, fans are done with Michele and her heinous non-apology.
“One of the worse apologies I’ve ever read. It’s not an apology,” one follower responded. “Probably don’t recall the behavior because seems to be a pattern for you with costars and probably just anybody in general that you can’t gain anything from,” another added. A third fan said, “This is so fake.” Finally, a fan broke down everything wrong with her “apology.” “I’m sorry if you thought I was acting racist,” they commented. “Okay but why does she keep saying ‘perceived as’ that’s basically her saying that she doesn’t think she acted the racist way people think she did.”
Most people are just flat out calling the Scream Queens alum racist.
