Fans tune in to “Carpool Karaoke” to see some of the biggest stars, tool around town with James Corden behind the wheel. The witty banter and comedic nature make it fun, while celebs singing karaoke in the car engages viewers like no other segment has managed to do. There’s one segment that continues to entertain the masses, and despite it being four years old, it is a favorite episode still today.

The highest viewed episode to date

You may be hard-pressed to find a single person who hasn’t watched at least one segment of “Carpool Karaoke.” The most popular segment of all is the episode in which James Corden spends time in the car with the wildly popular singer, Adele. On YouTube, the video has over 214,800,000 views since it’s original air date in January of 2016. It’s been shared more than 2.6 million times.

The two had instant chemistry as if they had been besties for years. They laughed, shared stories, and of course, sang karaoke. This segment was filmed in London, not the traditional Los Angeles drive that James Corden usually cruises. Adele fans loved her candid renditions of her chart-topping hits, including “Hello” and a few of her older songs. Fans also appreciated Corden hitting all the high notes, a feat most of us try to do only when we’re alone in the car. The segments are typically intended to be 15-minutes long and take about an hour to shoot. Corden and Adele had so much fun, they actually filmed for a couple of hours.

Major reveals during this segment

Fans got to learn more about the award-winning singer, in a candid and friendly way, during this segment of “Carpool Karaoke.” Adele jovially shared a story with James Corden, about a recent time she drank too much wine and ended up visiting with a random family and paid for their meal, as a result. She also confessed to having a huge appreciation for the Spice Girls, and having personified one with her friends, before then jamming out to the girl group’s hit, “Wannabe.” She also shared having played the drums when recording “Hello.” Adele showed another side of her musical tastes, and rap talent to boot, when she broke into song with Nicki Minaj’s famous feature on Kanye West’s song, “Monster.”

Fan reactions that made this an iconic and legendary moment

“Carpool Karaoke” is a must-watch among fans, but there was something magical about the chemistry between James Corden and Adele that helped launch this segment to legendary status. Despite having not hung out before, the two bonded almost immediately as pals. This authentic friendship set the stage for another 15 minutes of melodic performances, laughs, and stories. Viewers got to see their beloved Adele sing popular songs, and in a sense, let her hair down. It becomes iconic in part because Corden tells Adele she’s a female Phil Collins, an immense compliment. The pair were so endearing, many fans connected with their performance as if they were in the car with the duo.

James Corden is often hilarious, and most suggest he’s best suited as the host and driver of this popular segment. However, he is only as entertaining as the guest he picks up for carpool. And, while there are countless episodes that viewers might consider their favorites, there’s only one that reaches iconic-level status. Adele and Corden rocked the ride, shared amazing stories, spilled tea and chugging, and laughed for hours. Adele shared her mission is to take her fans on a journey with her through her music. And, for 15 minutes, we got to do just that.
