Fans Cast Anne Hathaway as She-Hulk, Because Why Not?
After her many roles as the feminine heroine in romantic films, Anne Hathaway might seem like she’s sticking to very specific types of movies. She’s certainly not the first actor most people think of when they think of action films, like those of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Her fellow actor Scarlett Johansson has made a name for herself in action hero films, but fans recently put Hathaway’s name in the running for future MCU candidates.
Fans suggested her for the role of a very unlikely superhero. But does Hathaway have the action chops to be in an MCU movie? Has she ever been in any action movie at all?
Hathaway’s acting career has included a superhero film
When most people think of Hathaway, the first films that probably come to mind are romantic comedies. She got her launch into fame by starring in early 2000s teen princess film The Princess Diaries, and went on to star in other romantic comedies such as The Devil Wears Prada and Valentine’s Day.
She has broken out of the rom-com bubble a little bit with dramatic performances, like her stunning musical debut in the film adaptation of Les Miserables. Hathaway certainly has proven she has superb acting skills, but have any of those roles given her the credibility to be able to star in an action film?
Well, perhaps those particular films don’t speak to her skills in the action arena, but don’t forget that Hathaway has also acted in a superhero movie already, so she’s not completely without experience.
Most notably, her experience portraying Catwoman in 2012’s Batman: The Dark Knight Rises is sure to have prepared her for some of the most difficult action scenes. There’s no doubt that she had to get really fit for this role.
However, the particular character that fans want her to play might be more difficult for her than playing Catwoman.
Fans want Hathaway to play She-Hulk in the MCU
In a recent Reddit discussion about which actors they’d like to see included in future Marvel movies, Hathaway’s name came up as a candidate for an unlikely role: She-Hulk.
Currently, there is a She-Hulk series on Disney+, but the title character is already played by actor Jennifer Walters. Although there are no talks for a movie starring either Hulk or She-Hulk at this time, it seems like fans can’t help but hope for one — and some want Hathaway to play the green female superhero.
Someone originally suggested Hathaway for the role of Dazzler, who is a Marvel heroine that’s associated with X-Men. However, another fan immediately retorted back: “Anne Hathaway would be way better as She-Hulk,” they commented.
They didn’t explain further, so we’ll never know why this particular fan thinks Hathaway would be a good fit for this role. However, we can guess that it has something to do with her incredible acting skills!
Other actors that fans want to appear in future MCU films
Hathaway wasn’t the only name suggested for the role of She-Hulk, if there were ever to be a movie in the future. Someone thought Alexandra Daddario of the Percy Jackson film series would be a good choice for the role as well.
Other actors that fans suggested for different roles on the MCU franchise were Leonardo DiCaprio, Will Smith, and Nicholas Cage. A few people suggested Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, who seems like would be a perfect fit for any superhero movie.
However, other fans didn’t agree with that choice. “Please no, I don’t want Dwayne Johnson in the MCU. Nothing against the guy but he plays the same goddamn character in every b-tier summer popcorn movie he stars in,” someone commented.
We think The Rock deserves to be given a chance!
