She was up for awards in seven categories: best new artist, record of the year, best music video for her song “good 4 u,” song of the year and best pop solo performance for the hit “drivers license,” and pest pop vocal album and album of the year for Sour.
She ended up taking home three trophies after winning the awards for best new artist, best pop vocal album, and best pop solo performance.
Rodrigo also performed at the show, taking the stage to sing “drivers license,” which won the musician her first trophy of the night.
The teenage star wore a ruffled white dress paired with black fishnets and boots as she sang her award-winning song. She started the performance inside a white Mercedes-Benz before exiting the car to join an all-woman band. Animatronic butterflies in the background matched the theme of Rodrigo’s Sour album.
While accepting the award for best new artist, Rodrigo gave a tearful speech in which she said that it was her “biggest dream come true.”

The pop star tried to balance three trophies in her arms while being photographed. But she accidentally dropped one of the golden gramophones, breaking it into two pieces on the ground.
Photographers gasped in shock but also comforted Rodrigo. “That’s alright!” joked one photographer. “We’ll just put it on your bill!” Rodrigo recovered quickly as an assistant helped her balance the awards and finish getting photographed.
