Fans React To Tyler Perry’s Final ‘Madea’ Play
Tyler Perry fans can’t get enough of his funny Madea character but it may be a while before they see her on stage or on the big screen again. The writer and director is retiring his famous Madea costume and it’s not because of the longstanding criticism from some critics. Instead, Perry says Madea’s run its course. Fans can catch a glimpse in what Perry says is Madea’s final performance in Madea’s Farewell.

Perry shocked fans when he announced that he was bidding adieu to Madea with one final stage play. After 20 years on stage and on-screen, Madea would make her finale in Madea’s Farewell.
The play documents Madea and her family coming together for a family graduation and chaos erupts. Through Madea’s wisdom, the family sorts through their issues.
In a 2019 interview with CNN, Perry explains why he’s opting to retire the beloved matriarch.
“I’ll be 50 this year and I’m just at a place in my life where this next 50 I want to do things differently,” he says. “This character has been amazing. So many people have loved her. It’s been a great franchise.”
Perry continues: “She’s also run out of things to say in my point of view. So if there’s something else for her to say maybe one day she’ll return but for right now, no, I think I’m done.”
Fans react to ‘Madea’s Farewell’
Madea’s Farewell is currently available for streaming on BET+ and fans are loving it.
“It’s good and funny,” one writes in the comment section of The Shade Room.
“It’s funny as hell,” writes another user.
“Saw this in person, the funniest sh*t ever,” another writes.
The play is so popular that some fans could not get it to stream due to too many subscribers streaming at once.
“So y’all done broke @betplus trying to watch Madea’s Farewell play? I can’t get it to load on either of my devices,” one Twitter user writes.
Others are going as far as using other family member’s profiles.
“I hacked into my dad’s amazon prime account to watch Madea’s farewell tour,” another Twitter user writes with laughing emojis.
Tyler Perry may resurface the Madea character
Fans can’t believe Madea’s Farewell will be the last time they see the gun-toting elder. At first, Perry insisted Madea was gone for good, but he recently admitted he may revive the character.
“Just looking at all that’s going on in the world, people want to laugh,” Perry reveals in a new interview with Good Morning America. “So, once they see the play, they’re going to get a lot of laughter. But I think she may have to show up again just to bring some joy. We’ll see…I think she’s working on a visual album called Madea Is Queen.”
