Fans Slam Carlin Bates For Taking a Vacation Amidst Pandemic: ‘That’s Not Social Distancing’
Reality stars and celebrities alike have come under fire on social media during the COVID-19 crisis. Some fans have given heat over celebrities pretending to be “in the same boat” as everyone else or for continuing to travel despite the lockdown measures in place.
Carlin Bates, one of the stars of Bringing Up Bates and close friend of the Duggar family, recently informed her followers that she and her husband, Evan Stewart, were taking a vacation along with their daughter. Though fans wanted to be happy for them, many felt the trip was concerning and suggested the two weren’t practicing social distancing.

The Bates family isn’t quite as well-known as the Duggar family, but the two families have always been close — possibly because they each have 19 kids. Over the years, and especially with social media, the Bates family has become much more widely known. And Carlin Bates, who married Evan Stewart in 2019, is arguably one of the most well-liked Bates family members.
Bates and Stewart have been documenting their married life on Instagram, and the two recently welcomed a daughter, Layla Rae. They always receive plenty of social media love from fans, though some were frustrated when the two announced they were taking a vacation.

On May 29, Bates posted a photo alongside her husband and daughter; the three were clearly on a plane, and Bates’ caption read, “Vacation, we are ready for ya,” with emojis; she asked fans to guess where the two were going. But instead of guesses, fans had harsh words for the two about taking a trip amidst the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
“Aren’t you at all worried about the covid 19 virus?” one user asked. “Uhh hopefully nowhere populated without a mask,” someone else wrote. “That’s not social distancing. I don’t mean to be rude,” another user commented.
Bates did respond to a few fans’ concerns, informing them that she and her family have taken measures to avoid getting sick. “We are trying to be very careful by flying a private plane… And our rental is a house that sits away from the crowds… We are cooking our own meals to avoid crowds as well,” she assured fans.

Some were excited to hear that Bates, Stewart, and her family were all taking a trip. They’re now relaxing in Florida, and Bates has continued to post photos of the vacation, despite some fans’ concerns. She recently showed off photos of herself and her daughter sitting on the beach.
Though it is risky to travel these days, In Bates’ defense, she and her husband did take a private plane, and the family seems to be taking the necessary precautions to ensure they avoid crowded areas. Bates’ photos on the beach with her daughter sparked positive comments from fans, and it seems like people are now fine with her trip — as long as she continues to social distance.
