Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex shocked the world earlier this month when they announced that they were looking to take a step back from being senior members of the royal family. The couple shared they will become “financially independent” as well as split their time between North America and the United Kingdom.

Many people have been trying to figure out how different Prince Harry and Meghan’s lives will be in the future compared to now. While Meghan is accustomed to non-royal life, Prince Harry knows nothing else.

But a lot of fans believe that there is really no need to worry about the Sussexes. In fact, based on what we know about their situation, fans believe the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will be fine.

What exactly will happen to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle now?

As Prince Harry and Meghan said in their statement that was released on January 8, they will no longer be considered senior members of the royal family. The couple will lose their “His/Her Royal Highness” titles, but they will still be in the succession line and take on work to “fully support Her Majesty The Queen.”

Moreover, they will take on other jobs to make money and not rely on the tax-funded Sovereign Grant any longer. But according to their FAQ page, the family will still receive money from Prince Harry’s father, Prince Charles.

Prince Harry and Meghan will still reportedly call Frogmore Cottage their home, though as for where in North America they will settle down in, no one knows for sure at the moment. They did spend time in Canada over Christmas and New Year, so it’s possible that they might buy a home there.

Fans think that Prince Harry will not really lose much after ‘Megxit’

Some reports surrounding the “Megxit” drama paint the situation out to be Prince Harry leaving the royal life that he has always known and loved. However, many fans believe that Prince Harry is actually going to benefit a lot from this in the future.

As people on Reddit pointed out, he is still very much considered a royal, though he will no longer have to adhere to royal duties to represent Queen Elizabeth. Instead, he and Meghan can choose to carry out work that they truly want to do. They recently trademarked the name Sussex Royal, so the couple can easily make money from their brand. Some estimates suggest the Sussexes could be worth billions in the future.

Meanwhile, some fans also noted that Prince Charles will likely “slim down” the monarchy when he becomes king, which means that Prince Harry and Meghan will eventually have to learn how to live without the monarchy anyway.

“Harry/Meghan aren’t being exiled or cut off from the family and are instead getting a head start on building a life for themselves now that they are pretty much dynastically irrelevant,” one person said.

Fans also think calling the scandal ‘Megxit’ is inappropriate

“Megxit” seems to be the most common name to use when referring to this drama. It was coined by The Sun and, of course, is a play on the word “Brexit,” which came about when the United Kingdom voted in favor of leaving the European Union. However, a lot of fans think that “Megxit” is a very inappropriate word to use, especially since it allows people to put all the blame on Meghan.

“Let’s call it Sussexit, not Megxit,” one person said on Reddit. “Harry is a grown man with his own autonomy and from all that he’s said, this was his decision that he pushed for, so let’s not blame it all on Meghan.”

Vanity Fair also pointed out that “Megxit” was already used by online trolls when Prince Harry and Meghan married in 2018. The word was used to advocate for the royal family kicking Meghan out of the family for rather sexist and racist reasons.
