Farrah Abraham’s Daughter Sparks a Heated Debate on Instagram
Teen Mom alum, Farrah Abraham is not one to shy away from controversy. Ever since she got fired from the popular MTV show, it seems she’s been engaging in more and more polarizing behavior. Whether it’s the way she dresses, acts, or even statements she makes, the 29-year-old certainly seems to ruffle a few feathers no matter what she does. But, one of the most controversial things about Abraham is the way in which she chooses to raise her daughter.
For 11-year-old Sophia Abraham, leading a normal life was likely never an option. Born on an episode of 16 and Pregnant (the original show that sparked the Teen Mom spinoff) she has been in the public eye since the day she was born. Though she is not on TV anymore, she aspires to have a career in entertainment. Abraham has shared that Sophia loves the camera and has dreams of being a model, singer, and actor.

Sophia is also quite active on social media despite the fact that she is so young. Because she is frequently posted on Abraham’s page as well as her own, fans and critics alike often weigh in on the way she’s being raised. There has been incessant commentary about Sophia’s schooling, clothing, and makeup choices. In fact, she recently sparked a debate thanks to her nails.
On August 5, 2020, Abraham posted a video of herself and Sophia to Instagram. In the video, she and her daughter are engaging in a game of rock, paper, scissors. But, what stood out about the video to critics and fans alike were Sophia’s fingernails. The 11-year-old was sporting long, fake, nails in black and gold. In fact, the nails looked as long as, if not longer than, her mom’s. Naturally, Instagram users chose to weigh in on the nails.

“What 11-year-old has those nails? one critic questioned. “Looks ridiculous. Does she even play like a normal kid?” they asked, speculating on Sophia’s atypical upbringing. Others quickly chimed in about how the nails were inappropriate for a child of Sophia’s age. Some critics went so far as to question Abraham’s parenting skills.
But, not everyone felt that the nails were a big deal. Plenty of fans rushed to defend Abraham and her decision to let Sophia wear fake nails “I have a 12-year-old and fake nails aren’t a big deal,” one fan began. “A lot of girls their age are getting them and at the end of the day there are a lot more issues than that little wearing fake nails to worry about,” the fan concluded.
Why Abraham doesn’t restrict her daughter’s choices
Abraham has been very open in the past about the fact that she doesn’t restrict her daughter’s clothing and makeup choices. She wants Sophia to be free to express herself in any way she sees fit. “She knows I don’t judge her like the world may,” Abraham began about her daughter in an past Instagram post. “I embrace her fun clothing, beauty, hair, health, and many more trends so she can explore and find her true self.” the Teen Mom alum shared. Clearly, Abrahams is going to let Sophia do what she wants in regards to her appearance. So, we’re unsure why critics think their disdain will change anything.
