‘Fast and Furious’ Star Tyrese Is Getting a Divorce; What He Stands To Lose
Tyrese may soon be a single man. The Fast and Furious star recently announced that he and his wife are divorcing after nearly four years of marriage. The split is already semi-contentious, with Tyrese shooting back at his estranged wife’s request for child support. Whether or not the couple has a prenup will determine what the singer and actor will lose in the divorce.
Tyrese announces divorce from wife of nearly four years
Tyrese announced he and his wife, Samantha Gibson, were calling it quits on their nearly four-year marriage. The couple married in a secret ceremony on Valentines’ Day 2017 and share a two-year-old daughter. Per a lengthy Instagram post, Tyrese says there’s an “attack on Black families” and his marriage did not survive.
According to TMZ, Samantha filed divorce documents three months ago, long before Tyrese announced their break up. That didn’t stop the estranged wife from wishing him a happy birthday recently.
Tyrese says the split is due to a verbal spat that resulted in Samantha threatening to call the police. He alleges he flew home from a movie set in August, his wife confronted him for reasons currently unknown and began a tense, three-hour conversation.
The Baby Boy star says he left the house in an Uber because he feared police interaction due to “multiple public incidents involving police brutality and racially motivated killings of unarmed African American people.”
Samantha Gibson is allegedly requesting $20,000 monthly in child support
Despite both putting on a united front for social media, the split does not appear amicable. TMZ reports that Samantha alleges Tyrese changed the locks at their home, which he denies.
She’s also requesting $20,000 a month in child support for their daughter. Tyrese finds the child support amount request “unreasonably high.”
It’s unclear if Samantha is also requesting spousal support from Tyrese. Despite having a famous husband, Samantha reportedly has her own career. In 2012, she obtained her bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Georgia, graduating with Cum Laude recognition.
She also earned a master’s degree in social work and a Marriage and Family therapy certification from UGA in 2015. Passing the statewide Georgia exam allowed her to begin her career as a licensed clinical social worker.
What Tyrese can lose in his divorce?
It’s unclear if Tyrese and Samantha have a prenuptial agreement but if they don’t Tyrese could lose millions. He has an estimated net worth of $10 million but claimed as recently as 2018 that he was broke in a custody battle with his ex-wife and mother of his first daughter, Norma Gibson.
At the time, he alleged in an emotional Instagram video that he was shelling out $13,000 monthly to Norma for child support. He claimed that legal fees in the ongoing court case was wiping him of his fortune.

Still, he continues to earn money from music and his acting roles. Aside from Fast & Furious, Tyrese’s acting credits include Four Brothers, Death Race, and Transformers.
He’s released seven full-length studio albums and has also toured alongside fellow singers Tank and Ginuwine as an R&B trio TGT. His last album was released in 2015. In addition to music and film, Tyrese says he has real estate assets as well.
