This Show That’s Perfect for ‘Virgin River’ Fans Is Getting a Season 3
Addicted to small-town romance and feel-good stories like you get in Virgin River and Sweet Magnolias? Then you need to check out Sullivan’s Crossing.
The low-key CW series follows Maggie, a neurosurgeon who returns to her hometown after a personal crisis, where she reconnects with her estranged father. The show premiered in 2023 and is currently airing its second season. And there’s more to come. The CW has renewed Sullivan’s Crossing for a third season.
‘Sullivan’s Crossing’ is from the same team that created ‘Virgin River’
Like Virgin River, Sullivan’s Crossing focuses on a woman working in a healthcare field who moves from a big city to a small town after turmoil in her personal life (in this case, it’s a professional scandal that forces her to make a life change). And that’s no coincidence. The show is based on a book series by Robyn Carr, who also wrote the best-selling books that inspired the hit Netflix series. The show’s executive producers, Roma Roth and Christopher E. Perry, are also the team behind Virgin River. Roth is also working on a third series series based on another Carr series. Thunderpoint, about a man who inherits an old friend’s beachfront property in Oregon, is currently in development.
Sullivan’s Crossing stars Morgan Kohan as Maggie, Scott Patterson as her dad Sully, and One Tree Hill alum Chad Michael Murray as her love interest Cal. In the season 2 finale, which airs Dec. 11, Maggie, Cal, Frank (Tom Jackson), and Edna (Andrea Menard) team up to help Sully keep his campground from falling to the wrong hands. But a careless mistake could cost someone their life.
‘Sullivan’s Crossing’ Season 3 will air in 2025
The season 3 renewal for Sullivan’s Crossing is good news for fans, considering that season 2 ends on a cliffhanger.
“We are so excited to return to Sullivan’s Crossing next year for a third season,” said Brad Schwartz, President, The CW Network, in a statement. “Roma, this talented cast, and the entire creative team have built an incredible world full of emotionally charged storytelling that has resonated with viewers over the last two years. And tonight’s season finale includes a can’t-miss cliffhanger that will leave fans clamoring for more.”
Sullivan’s Crossing Season 3 will have 10 episodes. It’s currently in production, with episodes set to air on The CW sometime in 2025.
“I am beyond thrilled that we get to continue telling this beautiful story about love and family with this extraordinary cast,” Roth told Deadline. “The love and support from both the fans and The CW has been overwhelming, and we can’t wait to show them what we have in store next.”
Of course, if you love Virgin River and can’t wait to see what’s next for Mel (Alexandra Breckenridge) and Jack (Martin Henderson), there’s good news as well. That show returns for a sixth season on Netflix on Thursday, Dec. 19.
