Amazon’s Shiny Happy People: Duggar Family Secrets is the streaming service’s most successful docuseries to date. The investigative series took a deep dive into the world of the IBLP, an ultra-conservative Christian ministry, and the ministry’s most famous family, the Duggars. While the four-part documentary told a compelling story, fans were left wanting more. It looks like they will get it. Filming for season 2 is officially underway.

‘Shiny Happy People: Duggar Family Secrets’ Season 2 is being filmed

Shiny Happy People season 2 is officially in production. According to the Georgia Department of Economic Development, the series is being filmed in the state, but further information was not immediately available. Duggar family followers were quick to question exactly why the production team would set up production in Georgia, but that’s not uncommon.

According to several Reddit users, much of season 1’s interviews were also filmed in the state. The filming location doesn’t give away much of what fans should expect from season 2. Jill and Derick Dillard, who were heavily involved in season 1, have yet to mention an upcoming project. They haven’t publicized any out-of-state travel, either.

While the production team is hard at work gathering footage for season 2, Amazon has kept the project quiet for now. The streaming service provider has not publicly discussed season 2, and no premiere date has been announced.

Is season 2 of ‘Shiny Happy People’ concerning for the Duggar family?

Late last week, Duggar family followers noticed the ultra-conservative Christian family appeared to be returning to social media. Several Reddit users theorized that Jana Duggar’s return to Instagram and the sudden interest in uploading to YouTube for other Duggars could be a sign of trouble brewing. Some critics believed another federal investigation could be on the horizon. While there does not appear to be a criminal scandal about to break, the now-filming docuseries might be scandalous enough to draw the Duggars back out into the spotlight.

Season 1 revealed a lot about the Duggar family and how they operated inside the Institute of Basic Life Principles. While season 1 revealed some serious bombshells, there is still more to tell. Last year, Cori Shephard Stern, executive producer of Shiny Happy People, took to Reddit to answer fan questions. Shepherd Stern said plenty of footage was left on the cutting room floor. It is footage that they’d like to use in season 2 while expanding on the story.

While More Duggar family secrets could be revealed, the production team is equally likely to examine other ultra-conservative Christian families involved in the IBLP and other fundamentalist ministries. The Bates family, who were deeply connected to the Duggar family and the IBLP, might be of particular interest. Shepherd Stern discussed potentially covering the family during her Reddit AMA last year.

The Bateses have managed to keep scandal at bay for now, but family followers think they might be hiding something. The Bates family’s TV show, Bringing Up Bates, was unexpectedly canceled despite footage for a new season having already been filmed. No official reason was provided.
