Where do Tully and Kate go from here? Netflix’s Firefly Lane ended with the two best friends’ relationship broken, perhaps beyond repair. But what exactly caused the falling out – and whether the two women will be able to mend fences – isn’t clear. Fortunately, a second season of the show, which stars Katherine Heigl and Sarah Chalke, is in the works. While details so far are scarce, Heigl has shared a few updates about the upcoming episodes.

‘Firefly Lane’ Season 2 is coming to Netflix

Firefly Lane stars Grey’s Anatomy alum Heigl as Tully Hart and Scrubs star Chalke as her long-time friend Kate Mularkey. Tully and Kate have been friends since childhood. But as they grow up and their lives change, their close friendship is tested in various ways.

Season 1 ended with a major – and unexplained – development in the pair’s relationship. The finale episode featured a two-year time jump. Kate was attending her father’s funeral, and Tully showed up to pay her respects. But Kate made it clear she didn’t want to see her old friend.

“When I said I could never forgive you for what you did, what did you think that meant?” Kate asked Tully.

Kate didn’t spell out exactly what went down between her and Kate. Fortunately, answers should be coming in Firefly Lane Season 2. Heigl and Chalke revealed in a May 2021 YouTube video that Netflix has renewed the show.

Katherine Heigl said the new episodes will drop sometime in 2022

“We don’t have all the answers yet, but trust us, it’s going to be worth the wait,” Chalke said when announcing the renewal news. “And we promise all of your questions will be answered.”

Netflix hasn’t yet revealed a premiere date for Firefly Lane Season 2. In late August 2021, Heigl shared on Instagram that she was back at work on the next season and missing her three kids. And in a November 2021 Instagram update, she revealed that the show’s sophomore season was “coming your way on @netflix in 2022!”  She also said that she was busy filming “in the wonderful city of Vancouver.”

Several new cast members will be joining Firefly Lane in season 2, Collider reports. India de Beaufort will play a character named Charlotte, who is a journalist working in Seattle in 1985. Greg Germann will play Benedict Binswanger, a wealthy man who decides to run for governor of Washington State. Jolene Purdy will play a talent agent named Justine Jordan. Ignacio Serricchio will play Danny Diaz, an arrogant sportscaster who is a potential love interest for Tully.

When Calls the Heart star Chris McNally will also join the Firefly Lane cast in season 2. He’ll play Mr. Waverly, an English teacher who inspires Kate and Tully as he pushes them out of their comfort zones.
