‘First Kill’ starts with ‘First Kiss’
The first episode of First Kill is called “First Kiss” for a reason. Juliette had a crush on Cal for a long time, and thanks to her friend, Ben Wheeler (Jonas Dylan Allen), she finally makes her move. She invites Cal to a party, and she goes.
The classmates play spin the bottle and land on each other. They go into a pantry, and Juliette immediately kisses Cal. It looks like Cal accepts, but then Juliette bites her, and Cal stakes her.
The legacy vampire and monster hunter learn more about each other after that. The actors gave commentary on the thrilling scene.
Sarah Catherine Hook laughed when she found a stake in Imani Lewis’ pants
The co-stars watched their memorable scene in episode 1 in a video for Still Watching Netflix. They note that their characters had different plans for the evening. Juliette wanted to flirt with Calliope, and Calliope was prepared to stake Juliette knowing she was a vampire.
The actors watched the scene of them touching and kissing more passionately. “This is my favorite part,” Hooks said. “That part right there! That’s my favorite.”
She then explained they were huddled to the side, holding each other as people set up the camera. “We were holding each other and just messing around, and I felt her stake all of a sudden,” Hook revealed. “I was like, ‘B*tch, is there a stake in your shorts?’ And we just lost it. I mean, I was on the floor crying.”
Lewis added, “We were in tears.” They also said they were making out “all day” to get it right.
Lewis also mentioned she moved her back like a seahorse to grab her stake. When she was told to “do the seahorse,” the actors claimed they lost it again.
The ‘First Kill’ kissing scene explained
The following episode explains the first kiss scene. Juliette tells Cal she “wasn’t herself” when she bit her. They fight, and Cal realizes Juliette cries blood, and her blood can paralyze her.
It’s later explained that the bite on Cal’s neck quickly disappeared because that’s what bites from legacy vampires do. They also aren’t killed by being staked.
The characters had fun together before it all soured. But it sounds like the actors had fun the whole day as they worked to get the scene right.
