‘Fixer Upper’ Star Joanna Gaines Doesn’t Have the Most Popular Cookbook in Texas, But 3 Other States Love ‘Magnolia Table’
Joanna Gaines is a national treasure but the state she’s most famous in is Texas. She and husband Chip became superstars after premiering their hit HGTV show, Fixer Upper, which showed them restoring homes in and around Waco. The couple plus their five children live on a sprawling 40-acre farm just outside city limits.
Fixer Upper ending in 2018 did nothing to curtail Chip and Joanna’s fame. Instead, this shiplap-loving couple is more popular than ever thanks to their retail emporium, Magnolia Market at the Silos in Waco, plus multiple other business ventures. Including a couple of best-selling cookbooks.
Magnolia Table features some of Joanna’s best-loved recipes and was a major hit with fans. However, in a recent breakdown of top selling cookbooks by state, it wasn’t the winner in Texas.
‘Magnolia Table’ showcases Joanna Gaines’s passion for family
Joanna didn’t get to have a traditional book signing for Magnolia Table Volume 2, but she made the best of it by hosting a faux event in her home with her husband and children as “customers.” Even without traditional marketing efforts, the book shot up the best-seller charts.
And before that fans were equally enamored by Magnolia Table: A Collection of Recipes for Gathering. The book includes 125 classic recipes that are meant to inspire fans to, “celebrate family and friendship than through the art of togetherness, celebrating tradition, and sharing a great meal.”
Every selected recipe seeks to achieve that goal.
‘Magnolia Table’ is the most popular cookbook in 3 states
People in different parts of the country are interested in different types of cooking, which is obvious based on the most popular cookbook in each state. Joybird put together a list of bestselling cookbooks by state for 2020 and surprisingly, Magnolia Table didn’t win the top spot in Texas.
It was, however, the top pick in three states: Iowa, South Dakota, and Utah. Joanna’s follow-up effort, Magnolia Table Volume 2, is the top seller in Nebraska.
The top selling cookbook in Texas
Texas residents may love Joanna Gaines and the huge boost she brought to Waco’s economy, but when they seek out new recipes they’re mostly turning to a different cookbook author. The best selling cookbook in Texas is The Defined Dish by fellow Texas resident Alex Snodgrass.
While Joanna’s recipes are more homestyle and hearty, The Defined Dish includes Whole30-endorsed offerings which are gluten free, dairy free, and grain free. It’s described as, “a cookbook people can turn to after completing a Whole30, when they’re looking to reintroduce healthful ingredients like tortillas, yogurt, beans, and legumes.”
Snoop Dogg’s cookbook is another fan favorite
Joanna Gaines isn’t the only one with a top-selling cookbook. The author who won top honors in the most states was rapper Snoop Dogg with his recipe anthology From Crook to Cook: Platinum Recipes From Tha Boss Dogg’s Kitchen.
His collection includes 50 recipes from Snoop’s personal collection, some of which have been featured on VH1’s Emmy-nominated Martha and Snoop’s Potluck Dinner Party.
It’s the best-seller in Connecticut, Indiana, North Dakota, and Rhode Island.
